Please see my signature & link for system info. I have played HL2 twice, Far Cry twice, and Riddick twice (I hope they come out with sequels to all, I was most impressed with Riddick).

Anyway I have been turning to shooters while taking a break from Rome Total War... I want to try FEAR now because of all the hype. My Samsung 213T monitor has a native resolution of 1600 x 1200.

Can my 6800 Ultra handl FEAR at that resolution? Will the game be playable or a slide show? I'm a casual gamer (spare time when I'm not working and I'm always working).

EDIT... I'd love to upgrade my card but... I had to build this system when my old comp died too soon (I usually get 3 years out of them). My mobo is AGP and that route is dead...

darn... I figured that is what I would be looking at... maybe I will have to build a new system in the not to distant future. Of course I can still play most games. Maybe I should wait for the next set of card R600 G80?

My 7800GT doesn't really like fear with everything maxed out @ 1280x960 with 16xAF and no AA. It's a bit choppy. Sometimes I'll throw in 2xAA but that slows it down a bit.

P.S. I just got FEAR two days ago, and I love it. Awesomely creepy game! and the graphics are Teh Roxxor!!one!.

If you disable soft shadows you should be able to manage 1152x864 in that game.

Agree with all posters, it has it's good fps and bad fps at 1152x864 with most things turned up on my overclocked 7800GT and overclocked Athlon 64. I tried 1600x1200 and it wasn't great. It will eat your Ultra for breakfast sadly. ;)

Edit: Just checked and that is with Soft Shadows off btw. I must comment that in my opinion if you have played Doom3 and Max Payne this game is not remotely scary! Great graphics but have only been surprised once compared to Doom3 where your constantly paranoid some stupid zombie is gonna jump out of the dark.

well, i have a pair of 6800's which i can play 1600x1200 at at respectable settings... granted not respectable per most high end users' thoughts. you can certainly play F.E.A.R on one 6800, you just won't be maxing settings out anytime soon...

I finished FEAR (AWESOME GAME !!!!). I play it on all max (no soft shadows) 2 AA/ 8 AF @ 1280x960. Great gameplay throughout, some choppiness in really wide open areas. Other than that, no problems.

on a x850xtagp ;)

I played FEAR maxed @ 1280x960 4x AA 8x AF with my old X850XT PE. Was a tad low fps in some spots :p, but it worked.

I imagine you could do maxed 1280x960 with 2x AA 8x AF with shadows off as was mentioned, or 1152x864, as was mentioned...

You can also play it at 800x600. I used to play it at that resolution on my old 6800 GT and consistently got over 60fps at almost all times (in singleplayer mode only) with AA and soft shadows turned off, and a 1600x1200 monitor can display that without having to interpolate anything.
