I have driven in Minnesota, Florida, Virgina, California, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
In all those states its illegal to tint your front windows (or was when I was living there).
In each of those states, I saw people with front side windows and even windshields tinted. The cops never seem to give a damn.
I think its something they just add on to your ticket if they pull you over for something else.

I live in Cali and have 30% all around but I drive with my front windows down almost all the time. AFAIK they will always only use something small as an excuse to pull you over if they suspect something more like no front lisence plate and other stuff.

VA is 50 front / 35 rear.
FL is 28 front / 15 rear.

lots of tint here in VA. lots of really dark tint by those folks in the military with FL registration.

i was told by a tint shop that cops won't mess with anything lighter than 35 because you can see through it pretty well. my dad has 35 all around on his vette in PA where front has to be at least 70. he hasn't had any problems yet. my brother has 20/16 on his car in PA and no problems either, but he's still nervous passing a cop.

I tinted the rear windows of my Maxima (rear door glass and rear window) with 20% tint (I think) but I left the front door glass untinted as I didn't want to be hassled by the cops for it.

I think it looks fine and it sure cuts down on the heat in the summertime. Keeps the interior slightly cooler and it takes less time for the A/C to cool the car when I start driving.

I don't care for tint except for cars the don't do any race duty. Too hard to see at night.

They make a crystal clear tint for racers that keeps the U/V from destroying their harnesses and other stuff. It's expensive as hell though (I think about $500 for a small car, I can't remember what I was quoted a year or so ago).

It's by 3M I am pretty sure and has nearly 100% blocking.

Just got all the windows done on my car over the weekend. He let me pick between llumar and 3M so I ended up getting 3M because the film felt so much smoother and I liked the shade a lot more. I did 35% and I don't really have to strain to see out or in (although it does look darker from the outside if no one is in the car. I have yet to see if it cuts down on the heat because I've been detailing it all weekend, but it's supposed to block 99% of UV rays and reject 39% heat.

I love the 35%, not too dark or light. The Suntek Carbon 35 is rated at 42% heat rejection and I do feel less heat in the cabin. Too bad I couldn't do the moonroof or front windshield though. Good thing I didn't pay extra for the Huper Optik for its heat rejection properties because it would get in through there anyway.
