i set the C drive with just shy of 20 gig which was more than enough but win8 won't install unless the partition is 20gig or more :( greedy pig OS.

anyhoo, any free reliable software to increase the size of the partition? just wary since in the long long ago, software like that would occasionally screw something up and you'd end up with corrupted partitions :(

Gparted. PartedMagic gives a nice set of tools along with it, and is worth keeping in your toolbox...

BACKUP! Gparted works reliably, as do many partitioners, but it's still a dangerous activity. Sometimes things just go wrong, and you should have a way to recover. You can image your disk using Clonezilla which is also on the PartedMagic image.

managed to get it going but it wont install. goes through the motions but craps out at the end and says "oops, we reverted it back to the way it was before"

1st time since winME i had probs with installing. 2k, xp, vista and win7 were fine and an improvement from the get go. hell, xp,vista and win7 i used from the beta onwards full time.
