Thing that pissed me off about Al, was that his little convoy held up search and rescue, and the damage survey so he could tour the area.

Yeah I remember those two. Didn't the NWS get upset about the storm survey done out there?

I'm not sure what you mean.

Read this. The Baltimore/Wash WFO was not familiar with damaging tornadoes and that inaccurately labeled some damage as F5. Then that information was given to the media and they forgot to state it was preliminary. Later on the NWS and the storm survey teamed lowered the rating to F4 because they overrated the damage to a certain structure. Basically: The survey team got real excited; inaccurately scaled the tornado; and then they released it to the press. The NWS was less than enthused.

Ah, gotcha. I think you are correct. I think it was officially downgraded to an F4. However, there was at least one instance where it is still iffy a to whether it was an F4 or an F5.
