Want to play Oblivion

I have a PC with an Intel Core 2 Duo 6600, 2GB of ram, yet only a 6800GT video card.

What ~$200 video card would allow me to play Oblivion at a decent res?

Thanks

X1950 Pro or XT

What's a "decent res" for you?

As said, definitely get an X1950Pro. You can get the PowerColor with pre-fitted Accelero X2 cooler for $199, or if you want a single-slot solution, you can get the Sapphire for $165 (after rebate.)

I guess by decent res, I mean with middle detail and quality levels. As for the resolution, I have a Dell 20" widescreen, so I am not sure what resolutions I'll be able to run Oblivion at.

What about a 8600gt? That is if you are ok with overclocking. It has shown to do better in Oblivion than the 1950, plus its overall performance might improve with more drivers.

If I am not mistaken, the gt also costs less than the 1950.

About $200 more. 🙁

Are you sure that you're not referring to the 8600GTS? The 8600GT is a fair bit slower IIRC.

The X1950 XT is the same price as the 8600GT and beats the crap out of it. If you're going for that price point(~$225), you might as well get the 8800GTS 320MB for a bit more.

Yeah I would agree with this, the 8800GTS is well worth stretching for. 🙂

no, the 1950xt isnt the price of the gt, its the same as the gts.

Go for the 1950xt for ~200, or the 1950 pro for ~140 AR

I would consider selling your 6800GT and getting an 8800GTS. Think of it this way, if you sell 6800GT for even $50, that's $200 extra to get 8800GTS.

No, not the 8800, the 8600. And not the 8600 GTS as it is over-priced. The 8600 GT is fairly priced though.

Edit: I missed the part where you said you wanted to run it at 1680 x 1050. Are you wanting to play with most or all of the eye candy turned up? Might have been wrong in suggesting the 8600gt, but it all depends on how worried you are about quality levels...

Oops, got the GT and GTS reversed. 😱

Either way, the X1950 Pro beats the GT in just about every benchmark and trades wins and losses with the GTS. The X1950 XT will beat either of the 8600s pretty handily.

Yup.

What everyone said, but the 8600GTS isn't a bad Oblivion option either.

Either way it will still leave the 360 version coughing its dust.

Isn't the 8800GTS like $500? Or am I thinking of something else?

It sounds like everyone is reccomending the 8800GTS

thanks!
