Want to overclock for the first time

Sporting a Gigabyte DS3 Rev 1, 2 gigs of PC2 6400 G.Skill ram 4-4-4-12 timings 1.9-2.0v, and a Core 2 Duo 6300, and stock cooling. And I'm running Vista.

I don't want a huge overclock, but I'd like to boost the processor into the low or mid 2 ghz range.

Any advice on how to do this? As I said, I've never done this before

After some research I've learned a bit more about overclocking than I knew originally; I think I'd like to shoot for OC'ing my bus to 350mhz, for a 2.45ghz overclock, though I'd be happy with 333mhz as well.

What would I need to set my CPU voltage & RAM speeds to for this?

Or am I already going about this all wrong?

Why not 400mhz? Your memory is 6400....

What's that mean?

And can the stock cooler support that?

Not sure, probably. I would never recommend ocing with the stock cooler though in the first place.

I'm waiting for my new case before I buy a new cooler; want to make sure whatever I buy would fit.

I thought I had read somewhere that the stock coolers for the C2Ds were pretty decent, and hoped I would be fine with a minor overclock

Aim for around 2.4 Ghz on the stock cooler, once you get a decent cooler you can get up to 3Ghz easily. The stickies on top of this forum are quite helpful regarding OC-ing. A simple google search of "How to Overclock Core 2 Duo" yeilded me tutorials and advice. You must read read read before touching anything in the BIOS. It helped for me to undertsand what everything is, the terms and such. And be patient! (I was impatient and nearly screwed up my system). Good luck!

The stock cooler is HORRIBLE for O/Cing in my experience. It ran way too hot for my tastes and I switched it out a week after I got my C2D
