Want to OC a E6800 with low cost MB and RAMs.

UPDATE: OK, I pre-ordered E6800, and run out of money (not really). I don't have too much to spend on MB or RAMS. But as I don't need to raise FSB so it should be fine. So I am going to search a low cost MB with CPU multiplier unlocked.

I want to get an E6600 and OC to at least 3.6Ghz and hopefully 4Ghz. That means I have to get a very good MB ($250), and good RAMs ($250). And even that could not guaranty I can reach 3.6G+.

I wonder if I could get an E6800, paired with generic RAMs, a cheap MB but with CPU multiplier unlocked. In that way, I could set the CPU frequency at my will. I can OC it to around 4G during video editing and gaming, and UC it to 1.3G or so when I am doing BT.

Do you think this is a viable solution? I never OCed before so to OC E6600 to 3.6Ghz maybe be difficult for me.

For MB, since I only want to change multiplier, would the quality of MB matter given the fact that any MB support Pentium D (120W) should easily support an OCed X6800 (75W+)?

On more question regarding MB. With a multiplier locked MB, what will happen with a unlocked X6800?

Thanks.

$150 Gigabyte 965 board can hit 400FSB stock or upwards of 500FSB with a fan mod.

? the E series are not multiplier unlocked no matter what MB you use. THey can go down from stock, but not higher.
