Want to lose weight (40lbs) by Christmas...

I have finally come to the conclusion that I am in dire need to lose weight because men are not supposed to have breasts. It's starting to really bother me and I am beginning to not be able to fit into my gaming shirts that I love so much. I now weigh about 230lbs and I really need to do something about it. Does anyone have a routine that worked for them or a website that worked for them? Personally, I'm really tired of being "fatty" and there is obviously no negatives to losing weight other than it being really hard work. I heard that obesity affects the brain by not allowing the normal amount of oxygen in which decreases thought processing and sleep is prolonged. Hope you guys can I understand my situation and aren't bitter to me. Thanks.

No way in hell to drop 40 lbs safely by Xmas.

If you're serious about this you can do it, no doubt about it. Aim your calories each day to 1500. Split it over 4-5 meals and make sure that the calories are of decent food and not crap. Have breakfast. Consume a good bit of protein. You should go to the gym and combine weights with a severe cardio program (severe for a normal person, not 5 hours cause I'm a marathon runner severe). I'd aim for 5 times a week and 30-60 minutes of cardio.

If you can do that you will lose weight FAST, but not 40 lbs by Xmas fast, cause that isn't safe.

As far as cardio workouts go, I'm blank. Do you have any site for fitness that you could point me toward?

You can start by hour long walks if you want at first, but are you willing to get a gym membership?

40 lbs in 1 1/2 months sounds tough. i don't know what else to say burn more calories than consumed, exercise safely depending on whatever it is you like to do, and more veggies/fruit less meat/carbs

walking is great...jogging at this point may be a little difficult. there's always swimming as well which is nice b/c it's low-impact

Yeah but how many overweight people want to swim? I know I wouldn't, although it is good excercise. The olyptical trainers at the gym are great as is the stationary bike.

Eh. I'm probably next to a recluse and I'm very anti-social which is one of the reasons I'm so heavy. I like pushups and situps but walking and running outside seems a little senseless since it's gotten so cold around here (PA). I could go to the weight room in my high school but I don't have anyone to go with me. Hmm. I'm too picky it seems. How far and how long would you suggest a normal session of walking? How much can walking do for your body?

Why wouldn't they want to swim?

I don't really know that many people who swim...I just started swimming about a month ago, and I like it so much better than running. one of my friends who does go swimming has lost about 100 pounds from swimming, but that has come from 60 laps/day for almost 2 years. 40 pounds in 1 1/2 months sounds a lot more difficult.

Fat people don't like taking off their shirts. I don't.

1) we can tell you're fat either way

2) It doesn't seem to bother most fat people at beaches.

and once you're in the pool, nobody notices anyways.

run...run every day....run until u collapse everyday....eat nothing but whole foods...no candy, no junk.......then maybe...maybe u'll lose the 40 lbs...my bro lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks...well, that's cuz he's in wrestling...he ran everyday...watched his eating....lifted weights...every single day.....i wish i had that kind of determination.....and that landed him in getting into northwestern 7 yr med program....smart kid...

As stated by others, no way in hell can you lose 40lbs in 1.5 months. That would require a daily caloric deficit of over 3,000 calories (takes 3,500 to lose a pound of fat). To put this in perspective; assume your bmr is 2200 kcal per day. You would have to eat nothing and jog about an hour per day OR eat normally and jog/bike about four hours per day to lose that much weight that fast. Pretty much impossible.

That said: don't get discouraged. You can lose the weight, you just have to accept the fact that it cannot happen quickly. One to two pounds per week is considered safe and also much more likely to stay off in the long term.

1. Assess your eating habits and try to cut out extra calories. This is a very individual thing. In my case it meant essentially giving up beer. Cut down on fried food, cheese, or whatever else adds the most calories. Don't starve yourself, just make sure you're not eating so much that you're undoing all the calories burned working out.

2. Start working out. Lift weights, run, walk, bike, swim, beat off, whatever. Just pick something you find somewhat fun so it's not a chore. Others to work out with makes the time go a LOT faster as well. Start small....say 1/2 hour of cardio 3-5 times per week along with some light general weights at the gym (nautilus is a good place to get started with this before moving on to free weights). Don't increase your total weekly volume of exercise (in minutes) by more than 10% per week to avoid injury. Some people like to keep an exercise journal as it gives you a concrete record of your progress in weight lost and how much exercise you're not capable of.

3. Rest. Proper recovery is the key to making progress. Work hard at the gym and then make sure you eat good stuff afterward and get plenty of sleep. Progress is actually made during recovery as this is when your body "rebuilds" and overcompensates for all the hard work you put in at the gym.

That's really about it, there's no trick or secret to it. Aim for a daily caloric deficit of 500-750 kcal or so and you will lose weight. Good luck. 🙂

This is what i I did.
I was at 210 and I'm only 5ft 9 inches in the summer. I started to cut out soda, and drink water or ice tea (no sugar). I hate running, so I decided to get a Mountain Bike.

I do weight training 4 times a week and ride my bike at least once a week for 12 to 15 miles. Thats nothing for biking. Now its Nov 19, I'm down to 191lbs. I want to drop another 20lbs for my height.

Like the others said, watch what you eat, don't eat too late. Water helps out a lot. Just be patient and don't get discourage. Don't get into crazy diet plans. Good luck man.

I dunno. I think this is more of a wish than anything. I have zero determination and motivation. I hate when it's cold out as do I straining myself. This is truly impossible. I didn't think I could lose 40lbs either but my sister has lost a considerable amount of weight by just walking and walking. Nothing besides walking, strange. Talk about a futile thread.
