I want to learn about vehicle repairs, parts, and the associated terminology. More specifically, different terminology, and operations used by mechanics, bodyshops, and insurance adjusters with the purpose of writing estimates and identifying whether certain damage and/or operations are related. Does anyone know any good sites for this? I have searched but havn't really found anything.

My placement requires extensive vehicle estimation. They do provide the basic training, but the problem is that they dont teach you too many things. Everything I'm going to learn will be 'learn as you go' type of thing.

To me, I want to be able to self study at home so I can minimize learning by mistakes or learn by asking too many questions.

any suggestions?

But make sure to buy the Haynes manual for it. If you want to learn trivial basic stuff like changing oil, changing brakes, rotating your own tires etc etc then just google it for the car that your going to be using for practice.

Yes, a Haynes or Chilton manual is a must. It will walk you through everything, including finding that last stupid screw that is keeping you from getting that body panel off (DAMHIK).
