So they could charge their consumers for stuff that the Minecraft PC community gets for free. Good job Microsoft!

Not going to lie, they are of high quality, but that's to be expected with a product that is being sold for $$$. However, given how easy it is to create a Minecraft skin I would not be surprised if someone could replicate it with ease.

It's possible they could make the money back in merchandising and rehashed add-ons. The maintenance fee on Minecraft must be paltry. Minecraft 2 however....will prove to be quite lucrative.

Well if they follow the pattern set with skype, the game will be unplayable within a year as they make major architectural changes to the engine so you can log in with your Windows Live Id.

Technically this is a Console Games post... this skinning only applies to Xbox version of Minecraft.

In fact, I think ALL skins on Xbox are $$, correct?
MS is for the Minecraft money off of Xbox. THAT is where the bulk of kid players (the ones willing to spend mom and dad's money) play the game.

Thank God my kids play on the PC and have learned A TON about computers in general just by playing/moding the game.

Thats not the problem, here let me correct it. "Microsoft likes to make money at all costs, often ignoring what made the product great." lets hope this isn't the case.

Minecraft was a simple game the people loved, Notch the original creator made many, many changes, let people mod the game to no end and never charged "more" as he was making a boatload of money to start with. Now MS is taking all the free fun (mods skins) and charging for them. That is not bad, nobody will make you buy them. If they make it so we cant mod and change for free, that will be bad. Only time will tell. Skin packs for money when they are free is a bit silly. MS is not APPLE, but Minecraft people do have a little bit of that bit shit crazy APPLE people do for their product.

Minecraft is one of the greatest games ever invented. I have like 600 hours into it or something ridiculous.

It's not a game for those who need to be spoon-fed their video games.

Agreed, the mods hit and it went above and beyond what anyone would have expected.

Even just using command blocks in vanilla Minecraft, one can create their own mods.

some pretty awesome total conversion mods.


anyway, as i have said before, i was upset when they made the survival bit easier, and also that they never implemented "difficulty increases" gameplay. tldr: beds ruined vanilla.
