I found the simplest solution was to get my own domain and host my mail on it. Short of not paying the bill, I never have to worry about this.

I got a domain for my personal stuff LONG ago. Since then I've had to help my dad 4 times change his email due to ISP changes.

The last time was the final straw and I've gotten him to use gmail and bought his own domain.

I had Adelphia many years back before Time Warner Cable bought them out. My Adelphia email address still works and allows me to receive email (can't send out as, obviously).
