Well, yeah, didn't think about it that way. I could probably do top 100. Lemme see if I can cobble together a really shitty top 25 real quick, in no particular order (the comments below the RS list help)...

[snip]

Hmm, that didn't turn out too badly. Not perfect, but it kicks the shit out of the RS list.

Sorting and augmenting your list from other movies listed in this thread...

The Good
Star Trek II
The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Terminator
Ghostbusters
The Untouchables
The Color Purple
The Princess Bride
Return Of The Jedi (barely in the good category)
Stand By Me
Gandhi
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Bladerunner
Repo Man
Brazil

The Meh
Aliens
The Breakfast Club
Die Hard
Robocop
The Karate Kid
The Shining
Weird Science
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Wall Street
Caddyshack
Amadeus

The Awful
Pretty Woman
Batman
Sixteen Candles
Escape from New York

Didn't See So No Rank

Why all the hate? List isn't that bad. We all have movies we love from that era but let's be honest about whether they're actually good. Entertaining =/= good.

You can argue about the order but it's not a horrible list. (and I graduated HS in '85).
The biggest hole is action films. Yes the coming-of-age movies were big then, but so were the big action hero movies, and horror movies. No love for Mel Gibson, Ahhhhnold, and Stalone. Too much love for The Brat Pack.

I was glad to see Big Trouble In Little China on the list.

I'd drop Amadeus and a Hughes film or two and add some of these....

Escape From New York
The Thing
(Ok, they woudn't make the cut, but I'm a big Kurt Russell/John Carpenter fan).

But how do you leave out stuff like...
Caddyshack
Raging Bull
ET
Brazil (Not a blockbuster, but I have to include it).

That's true. Escape from New York was interesting not just because of the characters but the plot/political commentary. Sort of similar to Blade Runner in that way.

Pretty Woman was 1990 (and it sucks). At least a third of your movies are on the RS list.

I don't particularly disagree with any movie on that list. I wish Real Genius had been on there somewhere, but I don't see anything I'd want to kick off to make room. Maybe Scarface, as that's a pretty bad movie and wasn't successful at all at the time.

Um...I honestly don't see a problem with that list.

Agreed, most were pretty good, but a list without Commando, Rambo, The Terminator and Gremlins is meh.

Man that just brought back memories! The 80's rocked! LOL

OH! Who could forget War Games!

It's a pretty non-offensive list and all those movies are classic 80s films. It's a watered down list of movies that appeal to the a broad audience. Blade Runner is probably the only outlier. I definitely think the Brat Pack films are grossly overrated. Not that they're bad, or didn't connect with their audience at the time.

It's pretty bad though when your best of the 80s list doesn't included films like
Ghandi
Rain Man
Mississippi Burning
Raging Bull
The Color Purple
ET
Tootsie
Field of Dreams
Brazil
Platoon
Das Boot
A Christmas Story
Cinema Paradiso
Batman
The Terminator
Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Once Upon a Time in America
The Secret of NIHM
The Little Mermaid

I could go on.

Wow Dead Alive was in the 90s and Texas Chainsaw Massacre was in the 70s. My stupid brain had them both filed under 80s.

Only movie missing from that list is Conan The Barbarian. Greatest movie ever.

It's like they forgot these:
Terminator
National Lampoon's Vacation
Field of Dreams
Raising Arizona
The Princess Bride
E.T.
Raging Bull
