Want to get a puppy or dog - maltese, beagle, lab ?

Beagles suck. Labs are cool. Beagles howl and bark and are very annoying. They chew sh!t up like the cushions on my new front porch chairs.

Damn neighborhood dogs :|

Whoa, I didn't even see this thread come back to life. Thanks for the input so far. I haven't gotten a dog yet, and I agree with the statement that I could adopt a young dog. Sometimes you see these 4month-1yr old puppies for adoption that are already housetrained and you get a little idea of their personalities. But my wife wants a puppy b/c she is scared of dogs but says she'll be fine if she gets it when it's a puppy. I told her we shold get one a year old b/c you don't have to train it or go through the puppy stages but she says that would be the most fun part. For the record I have had puppies/dogs before, she has not had to train one and have it pee everywhere and chew on everything. Anyway, tough decision to make in the next 1-2 months (want to wait until my wife is done with school so she can be home with the puppy).
