A tactical shotgun or a .380 would do nicely. The shotgun is what the guy at Ace hardware recommend mostly due to the fact bullets pass through walls.

Lately people have been buying vintage flare guns and outfitting those to fire bullets and shotgun shells.

Shot gun is first thing that came to mind as it probably requires the least amount of aim which might be harder in a heat of the moment situation, but problem with a shot gun is it's going to make a huge mess. Holes and gibs everywhere. But guess in a life or death situation that matters less.

So some kind of pistol with high cap magazine is probably best bet. Couple shots to the chest to mostly disable the perp then line up for a head shot to finish.

California is lucky enough to have less than 50% of HS students not even graduate and politicians to take advantage of it. It amazes me how ignorant the average Californian is. There are certainly geniuses and amazing people there, but damn, there are a lot of truly stupid people living there.

Pretty sure all states have less than 50% of HS students not graduate. Quite a bit less than 50% actually.

Mossberg 500 8 shot pump 20" barrel. Everything you need and it won't cost an arm and a leg. If you're lucky, you'll never have to use it. The "ka-cchink" of pumping a round in the chamber usually scares 'em off anyway.

You want less penetration without sacrificing effect.

Go with some nice .380 defense rounds or some .45

speaking from experience. I went with 9mm so I could afford to shoot it. 9mm has its place its just not the home, IMO.

GUYS!

Read what he said over again.

Well under 50% FAIL to graduate. Meaning much more than 50% DO graduate.

Pay attention.

Someone finally realized this. LOL!

For the record, California is on par with the national average for high school graduation rates. The lowest in the nation is D.C. At about 68%. Alaska and Nevada are also pretty low at around 70%.

Can't really go wrong with a revolver. Reliable, simple to use, no fumbling with safeties. Get a .357 magnum and practice with .38 special rounds which are less expensive and load it with hotter .357 magnum loads for home defense.

I like Smith & Wesson medium frame revolvers.

Lol GagHalfront. True enough!

I get a shotgun if you have like one home invader. But what if you get rushed by several people at once? Wouldnt it be better to have a gun where you can quickly pump bullets into one perp after another?

Thanks!
If you drop 1 out of six that's rushing through your halls, the rest wouldn't keep coming. If you have a handgun good, luck hitting 6 guys that are coming at you inside your house.

I agree that a good shotgun would be a great place to start. However, the fallacy of not aiming still seems to be around. I can assure you that from a home defense standpoint, you're going to have to be able to aim that shotgun. The spread isn't instant. I believe the pellets spread around an inch per yard on average so.....if you're 4-5 yards from them, you're looking at about a 4-5 inch spread on average. That definitely constitutes having to aim.

Also, keep in mind that racking the slide generally does NOT scare off the intruder. If they were brazen enough to enter your home, a sound like that isn't necessarily going to deter them. What it does do, is give away your position. So in hindsight, you racked the slide to show them who's boss.....and all you did is tell them where you are. Just my .02 there so feel free to disagree.

I think a nice pump or semi-auto shotgun and a handgun would be all you would need. You'll have lots of choices on both, depending on what your budget is and how much you want to spend. If/when you do pick something up, feel free to share with us. It would be cool to see what you picked up and what you think of it. 🙂
