I guess my option is to take out the 40 gig and install xp on the 80 gig and ten use the 200gig as the secondary

but i dont wanna lose all my stuff (like as if i was formatting) i just formatted a month ago and dont wanna go through all that

can i hook up the 200gig to like the secondary slave and then hook up my cd drive in an external encolsure hooked up to the computer?

would that work? then.....maybe down the line when i feel like i want to i can eliminate the 40 gig or maybe leave it in the enclosure for xtra storage and switch to 80 - pri mast and 200 - pri sla

tell me what you think I should do thanks

Why not just clone the main partition over to the 200 and run it from there? You don't even have to lose data as long as the stuff is on a different partition from the main drive. Just nuke that one partition and leave the others, then install the OS on the drive that you desire.

I recommend installing the 200 as the master since it'll most likely be the fastest. I mean like, I recommend getting rid of the 40gb from the PC since you probably won't need it anymore and it's probably the slowest of all the drives.

thanks maybe ill do that

but

what if 10 months down the line for some resaon i wanna/hafta format my main drive

id lose all the data on the 200 gig

so maybe i should make like a 50 gb partition on the 200 gig made for just windows files and programs?

then the other 1 ofr storage

1 more question---- is it true that ONLY xp SP1 reads drives bigger tahn 133gb? so then if i do a fresh win xp install how would that work? id make a 133 gb partition till i install sp1 then do another partition for the rest of the size? very very very confused

What motherboard do you have that you can't simply add the hard drive? Most allow for at least 4 IDE devices. Sounds like you have 3 currently, unless I am missing something somewhere. If you do decide to use the 200GB as your main drive, I would make a partition for your OS and applications. That does make backing up the OS and restoring it much easier. Saving 10GB is a lot more simple than 150GB...

Ah, I missed that then. My bad. You can do as was suggeted above and get a PCI controller. I tend to use a smaller drive or parition for my OS and apps and leave the huge drives for data storage. That's what I would do if I needed to replace one drive, keep my OS drive/partition (unless its an old slower drive) and clone and replace the storage drive.
