Want to do fresh install of ubuntu 8.04 on current dual boot system.

Will it be a painless install? I believe I have done this in the past but I'm not sure. When installing ubuntu won't it ask if I want a clean install or upgrade?

I don't want to re install Vista, I no longer have the disk. Have no idea what happened to it during a recent move.

The upgrade was quite smooth from 7.10 to 8.04 for me. Reformatting and repartitioning are two things you don't have to worry about doing again if you decide to go the upgrade route.

You should just be able to delete your current linux partitions and then resintall and grub will automatically reconfigure the dual-boot.

Yeah, check your upgrade manager - i should offer to bump you up to 8.04.

Update manager has an upgrade option from 7.10 to 8.04. I did this on two machines yesterday.

Just finished fresh installing 8.04 and XP SP3. It was a pain backing up 300GB onto DVDs but I survived. The trick for me is to set the partitions while installing windows, then install Ubuntu to convert the partitions you want to ext3

I just toss in the Ubuntu 8.04 cd, and install from there. When it ask for the partition settings, select manual option and delete the current Ubuntu partition then recreate it then pick the filesystem of your choice. I prefer jfs to ext3... but to each his own.
