Want to ditch my iPad for a Windows device

I have had an ipad for about two years now. I use it every day for web browsing.

But I'm kinda sick of being cramped by Apple's DRM and other BS.

So I want to try Windows. Real Windows that I can run software on.

Is there something that would give me say:

(a) 8 hours web browsing

(b) full fat Windows

(c) not be too much more expensive than a real iPad

?

There are dozens of these right now and they're cheap and popular.

What size are you looking for? And specific budget range is important as you can find one from $100 all the way to $1000 Surface Pro.

No smaller than the big ipad, and about the price of an ipad.

You have really two ends of the spectrum with Win8 devices and not much in between.

On one end are the $100-$300 tablets, but they are usually in the 7-8" range.
Other end is the Surface Pro tablets but you are looking at $700+ entry for them.

There just isn't much available between those device ranges. Dell has a few in there, but I'd rather just go with a cheaper, smaller tablet or spend a bit more and just go all in on a Surface.

I would look at the Acer Switch 10 or 11. These are Windows tablets with included keyboard docks. They are very affordable with models cheaper than an iPad and better specced models only a little more expensive than an iPad.

The Core i3 model with 4GB of RAM and 1080p display is only $600.

That ASUS looks really nice.

Since your words were "not too much more expensive than an iPad", I will also look into the i3 Surface Pro 3. Sometimes you can get these with coupon code + discounts for around $600.

Yeah, I want that Asus myself. I really want a Surface 3, but I in no way actually need one. It sure would be nice to have a keyboard and trackpad from time to time though.

You're in the UK so I'm not sure if this would be available to you but refurb Dell Venue 11's are less than $300 on ebay and are FANTASTIC.

If you like it, you can add a keyboard dock with an extra battery and have it act like a real laptop. You can buy Dell's active stylus and get some surface pro-type functionality on it as well.

HIGHLY recommend.

Heck, I might even say stretch it out and grab the i3 version...

Anyone who thinks they might want a Surface Pro but can't afford it should be looking at the Dell Venue 11. Is it AS GOOD? No. Is it half the price? Yes.
