Want to construct a device that gives weight feedback

Hi,

I want to construct a device that will notifty me when a certain amount of weight is placed on it. Imagine a scale but instead of telling you how much you weigh, it just tells you when a certain amount of weight has been reached.

Is there any sort of mechanical spring that will click when this happens?

Thanks.

1)Get a spring of a set constant, with a platform on it.
2)Get a microswitch.
3)Place the switch so that it will be triggered when the platform descends below a certain level.
4)...
5)Profit!

This is what I was looking for. Do you know of a way to do this mechanically, not not with electronics? I would need something to give me a cue when the spring is fully compressed.

Thanks.

put in a little chip and play some some stored audio such as "Get off me, get off me, you are going to break me in half!"
or "This scale is designed to measure one person at a time. Please pick 3 out of the 4 people and have them not stand on the platform."
