Want to buy cell phone off craigslist

I am looking at a Blackberry off craigslist and was wondering if it is rude (or even possible) to ask for his ESN# to check and make sure the seller isn't selling me a phone I can't use. Is this standard procedure or no?

I wouldnt give it to you. Ive sold a lot of phones on CL.

I do have people pop in thier sims and test the phone before I take any cash though.

How could I do the equivalent on Verizon network?

Got me there man. Guess youll have to do the esn thing. I would too . Lotsa shady people on CL.

I've had guys call Sprint while I was selling them a phone to verify the ESN is clean (after I met with him). If they are legit, they shouldn't have a problem with it. Took the guy about 3 mins and I just waited. He then gave me cash then I left.

I've sold Verizon phones on Craigslist and always offered to give out the ESN weather they ask or not. I'm not 100% what harm they could do with it, but I've never had a problem from it *knock on wood*
