Want to buy a Tonneau cover for Chevy S-10.

Moms law firm gave her a 100 dollar gift card for Amazon. She didnt need it, sent it to me.
I have a Chevy s-10 going into the shop next week for a paint job and some misc. work. Also want to remove my crummy toolbox and bed liner and put on a soft cover.

Found three reasonably priced items on Amazon but am not sure about brand names.

One is Extang, one is Truxedo, one is Lund. The Bestop cover on the 2nd page does not look like what I want.

Any thoughts on Brands?
Or do you guys think the hard top would be so much better I should just go for that? The heavy snow is gone from Virginia and I doubt we will see it again next winter. I will not be hauling delicate items in my bed on a regular basis. Just camping gear and groceries.

The problem with soft tonneau covers is that the shrink in cold weather. Basically if you roll it up in sub-freezing temps, you won't be able to stretch it to get it to snap unless the sun is shining on it (and warming it up).

I had an Extang on my Dodge Dakota and it was a good cover. I installed it in 2003 when I bought the truck, and my Dad still has the cover on it now (2010). It is starting to crack, but it has done its job.

I used to own a short bed full sized Chevy truck in which I installed a tonneau cover on. I hated it. When it was cold I couldn't stretch it far enough to cover the bed. When it was hot it would balloon in the middle, flop around and make all kinds of noise. Then someone decided that they wanted to see what was under the cover and cut it with a knife. I guess they were too lazy to pop the cover off the snaps. The next pickup I had owned was a Long bed (7 1/2 ft) S-10 pickup. I bought a fiberglass lid which also locked. I liked that much better but you couldn't carry anything much taller than the bed without having to remove the lid. Neither one will give you better mpg, so unless you are trying to protect something, go without.

One option too that I've seen is a roll up hard cover. They work much like shop garage doors (the ones that roll into a box) and are available even with remotes which is very slick.

I had a soft cover on my Sonoma and didn't have a lot of issues with fitment. I had the truck when I will living in the northeastern part of Ohio so it saw both sub zero and 90+ degree days.

I have a roll-n-lock roll up hard cover on my Tacoma. I'm pleased with it for the most part. It's versatile enough to let me roll up when I want to carry a large load, and roll closed if i want to protect something (snowboard, camping gear, tools, etc). The only issues are that it does shorten your bed by about a foot and isn't completely waterproof when it rains.

Anything that keeps shit from blowing out of the back of your truck is a good thing IMO.

Exactly why I don't cover my bed. I love watching fuckers panic when leaves blow out and they swerve to avoid getting foliage on their precious BMW's.

Fuck it, I'm gonna go ahead and spend a thousand bucks on a locking fiberglass cover. Too many assholes in Manassas would rip it up to steal shit or just to be dickheads.

How about when a chunk of wood blows out and you're following on your motorcycle? Or a ladder? Those are always fun. I once saw a camper shell lift off this guy's truck on the freeway, it went up about 20' into the air, stopped there for a second as it stalled and then crashed back to the earth in a million pieces, some of them quite large.

I'd love to beat the ever loving shit out of everyone who doesn't secure shit in the back of their trucks (leaves don't count). 😉 And then take their truck away and crush it until it's the size of a coke can. Then they can have it back. Fuckers. :|

Well, considering the most harmless thing to drift from my bed is leaves, your rant leaves me unsatisfying unaffected.

I said leaves don't count.

And I have seen all of that stuff and more fly out of the beds of pickup trucks while driving behind them.

I know you guys wont believe me, but I saw a Lincoln pickup the other day with shit in the back. Looked like rotted old wood and splintered 2x4's.

I looked on Craigslist, I didn't know your exact location so I chose something that should be close by given your profile:

Thanks but I already ordered a hard top through Amazon. And I have the 2 door long bed S-10. That one is for short bed 4-doors. I already made that mistake with accessories once before.
Wish I gotten a 4 runner instead. Much more in the way of accessories and parts.
