We have a wrt54g (one of the linux based ones, early versions before linksys started making the 54g crap), and our house is pretty big, and we are getting low connections in areas. So, i am thinking i should get this from linksys sense my router is linksys as well. I would put it somewhere in my house. But i am a little confused. At my other house i have a buffalo router with a buffalo access point (it plugs into the wall and it picks up wireless signals to boost connection in that area of the house, but also directly connects to a desktop pc out there)

So i am wondering if this --- http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit...mon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8228139789B22

does what i need it to... i dont understand Power over ethernet, but i like this product more than this one-

so that first one is exactly what i need right?

also, my house is three floors, the basement is where the router and modem are, should i put this thing on the middle (entry) floor or the top floor?

thanks

You probably just need the 2nd one you posted. PoE is nice if you have a switch that supports it, but I'm going to assume that's not something you have in your house.

Second I'd probably place it in the middle floor and have one of the dipole antennas pointing up and the other pointing to the side for maximum 3d diversity.

Of course it's hard to say for sure if that's going to cover your whole house, you'll only know that if you put one in and perform a quick survey.

Have fun,

If you have a Network connection else where in the house you can plug a second Wireless Router and use it as an Access Point (it probably would be the same arrangement as in you other house).

If it is cable connected any Wireless Router would do as long as it is configured as an Access Point, see here, http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Otherwise you can buy a router that can Reapet and use it as a Repeater, or do WDS.
