I'm looking for a new MB to replace my 266A. I have a XP 2100 I will not be upgrading for awhile and have a 9700 Vid card so I want it to be 8X AGP capable. I want to be able to be able to put a new AMD processor XP2400+ or greater in it later on. I know KT400 or nforce 2 group are the way to go and I'd like it to be serial HD capable. I want gigabyte LAN, dont care about built in sound/video.

What types are available? Why do you recommend them? I will probably o/c the processor and memory.

Im looking at the ASUS nforce2 board coming out soon and the MSA K4 board.

Help?

Well first off gigabyte will do you no good unless all your routers, switches, cableing, etc... are also gigabyte standard. So a built in 10/100 will do fine. In fact a 10mbit ethernet card will do all you need for high speed internet.

I would pass on the nForce 2 boards as you say you will be doing this in the next 2 weeks, that is not enough time for any good amount of nForce boards to come out and find all (any) of the bugs in them.

The best board I see for the most part is the Epox EP-8K9A2+. It has Highpoint Raid, serial ATA, usb2.0, agp8X, 6ch sound, and a 10/100 ethernet card. It is going for around $125, and should also overclock very well, if you wanted to try :)

Thanks for comments guys I will ckeck that board out. I read that the new ASUS nforce2 will allow you to bypass AMB processor multiplier locking feature? Anyone know if this will be on any other boards available soon?

Thx
