I have been reading these boards for a while and doing my research and finally decided to build my own system. I want to spend under $800. Already have monitor. I know I want to overclock but don't know what board and cpu I should get. I'm guessing T-bird and don't know about board. Every site I visit has a different recommendation. This is what else I want to put in it:

Plextor 16/10/40 CD-RW
All-in-Wonder Radeon 32 MB
Want to use SD RAM not DDR
don't know about sound card, something decent
DiamondMax 40 gig 7200 RPM

Could you all please give me some suggestions

Thanks

I have noticed that a lot of ppl are happy with their MSI, IWill, Gigabyte or Abit motherboards.
MSI Turbo-R Decent, fairly cheap
ABit KT7A Decent, fairly Cheap
Not to familiar with IWill or Gigabyte myself, bump....
An unlocked T-bird yields fairly easy overclocking (considering the cooling is decent). As for a sound card, SBlive and TB santa cruz are crowd favorites.

I would go with a 1.2 GHz T-bird right now. They are at a good price point right now ($99). and that with a good SDRAM board should be good. I would probably consider the Abit KT7A or the Iwill KK266 for that. I am not a good source on sound cards, so I won't offer any advice there.

If your goal is overcklocking then I would go for the Abit ... they have ahndy softmenu etc ... so once you unlocked the cpu you can overclock at will ... (make sure to keep yer PCI and AGP close to spec cous from what I've heard the radeon isnt too happy about getting high AGP clock ...)

Check out my buyers guide....

AccessMicro sell Motherboard Bundles that have a 2 yr (replace with new) warranty. For example, you could get an ....

Epox EP-8KTA3 KT133A Motherboard
AMD TBird 1.2Ghz
Cooler Master HSF
256MB Kingston PC133 SDRam

... for $256! The price includes burn in and assembly.

Something to think about! :)
