I want to build gaming computer for less than $600 US ($700 Canadian) here is what I have so far:

In canadian dollars:

CPU
AMD Sempron 2500+ 64Bit 1.4Ghz Socket 754 256KB L2 Cache $66.00
Motherboard
Asus K8V-X Socket 754 VIA K8T800 w/ DDR400, Gb LAN $82.00
RAM
Samsung PC-3200 DDR400 256MB 184-pin DIMM $33.99
Video
Asus N6600/TD/128 GeForce 6600 128MB DDR AGP 8X $156.00
Hard drive
Western Digital Caviar EIDE 80GB ATA-100 7200RPM $69.99
Optical Drives
LG (CDR-8162B) 16X DVD-ROM Drive (OEM) $26.99
Case
Antec SLK1650 Mini Tower w/ SmartPower 350W Power Supply $79.99
Monitor
17" CRT Flat Monitor Black $83.00

TOTAL+ TAX: $687.65 CANADIAN (~$535 US)

If there is any way i can improve this build while staying under $600 US? I dont want to buy refurbished products.

Instead of getting 2x256 memore, get 1x1024mb.

It would reall, really help if you could add a bit more cash and get a 6600GT or equivilant.

Thats about as good as it gets with your price range. It will play older games fine, and newer ones at low settings

There are several things that could be done to that to make it better, but most of them would put you over your budget.

If you can, try to get 2x512mb or 1x1gig ram into your budget or bump the 6600 up to a 6600gt.

(basically what xTYBALTx said)

You might want to re-think that combo, it's going to run a little slow.

$120??? That seems unusually expensive for Corsair VS. Is that in Canadian dollars?

If you wanna be cheap, I know you can get a 512mb stick of ram for $40USD. So, easily 2x512mb for under $100CAD

754 pins should fit into 939 holes with 185 holes left to spare, who needs the extra holes anyway :) But seriously, nice catch deathwalker I glazed right over that one. OP it won't work, rethink your choices.

Yes, NCIX is a Canadian website. That's 2x512Mb for $120 Candadian dollars. That's still kinda expensive for 2x512MB though...

To the OP:
Save your money and get a good Athlon 64 system. Or wait for Socket 939 Semprons. Either way, just wait a bit.

Normally, I'd advise against this, but maybe you should think about trying to buy some RAM off a reputable seller on eBay, either a Canadian or someone who will ship to Canada. It's less of a problem with RAM since many manufacturers offer lifetime warrantees. I've seen some really nice deals like $50 USD for 1GB and a little more than $100 USD for 2GB.

except aren't those warranties to the original buyer, I know corsairs aren't transferable

you could try and thief a 939 3000+ on ebay, a lot of them go for 90-100 US, there is little shipping on cpu's

but yeah for 700 bucks your better waiting for a console

Wow so many ignorant comments, I was working between a 939 system and a 754 system and I forgot to change it, anyway the 754 was much cheaper so I stuck with it.

Anyway no way I can upgrade to 1 GB because thats way over my budget, same applies to a 6600GT, mind you I am not getting great deals on this hardware becuase I cant really shop around.

Any other comments are greatly appreciated, I am abit worried about the PSU in that Antec case.
