True, but he didn't give any reason for not going Intel. Normally I would recommend AMD but with a 2 grand budget, Intel is definitely the way to go:

Retail Intel P4 HT 3.06 - $519
Aopen E7205 AX4R - $172 (also $25 rebate)
2 x 512MB Kingston PC2700 - $130
OEM Audigy 2 - $78
Creative Labs Megaworks THX 550 - $260
Retail Lite-On 52X CDRW - $48
Retail Lite-On 16X DVD - $35
Antec Performance + PLUS660AMG - $98 (includes TruPower 330)
Sony 21" CPD-G520P - $622

It doesn't get much better than that. Certainly a system I wish I owned.

Maybe he should get a dual amd rig :)

Seriously tho, don't spend too much just because you can...I would go for a 2400+ with a gig of pc3200 ram. maybe spend the rest of your money on a nice monitor.

Well if you intend to spend 2 grand, I would reccomend on a kickass dual monitor setup. I'm still partial to CRT displays over LCDs (on the high end, for picture quality and high res) although LCDs can be great now. Barton is a good idea.

I'd do this, pick up an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and get a nice 19" monitor (Sony G420), 21" is a bit much.

If you really want to spend the dough, you could either watercool w/TEC, maybe even vapochill, and/or go with 4 drives in RAID 0+1 or RAID 5 array.

Simply with that budget, and the parts you already have, you can absolutely build a killer system. Almost don't know where to begin with that kinda money....
