I would like the PC to come on, do the virus scan early B4 I wake. Possible without buying external timers or such?

Is this somethng I can do in the Bios? I know there is a section in there partaining to this, but I have never tried.
 
Best way would be to set the scan to start when you go to sleep. Which software do you use? It may have an option to shut down the computer after the scan is complete.
 
The AVG I have does not have that option. I checked in the Bios, and it looks that all wake up features are implemented from outside the pc - like a phone line ringing.

Just a thought. Maybe someone has tried this and will spot the post with an idea.

The only way to do this is to have BIOS support for it. That said, I recommend you leave your PC on 24/7, much easier on a system than the constant ON-OFF cycles.
