I am torn between a turtle and a lizard. More specifically a common musk turtle and a bearded dragon.

getting both eventually cause their poop won't offend anyone and i have the means of providing above standard conditions. Their environmental bioload is low compared to humans and dogs

so, what first? Guess I'll follow my heart prob, but entertain me

Lot lizzards are pretty cheap going in, but may become expensive on the long-term investment.

It seems so dick to keep animals like lizaards, snakes and birds, they spend most their life in a tiny cage when they should be out roaming or flying. I feel bad enough I don't get my dog out to the woods as much as I should poor little guys meant to run and hes stuck in a house or running around surburbia.

bearded dragon can be held, taken for walks, rest on your shoulder, dressed in clothing for luls, rest on your computer table, etc. capitive bred animals usually live longer than those living in the wild. It depends on the owner, if you offer compassion, you will get a happy animal

I knew a person in college who was a big fan of Bearded Dragons. Based on her Facebook feed, they get along ok with rabbits.

They're kinda cool, I guess. I don't get the appeal but she treats them like I treat my cats. Apparently they don't live as long as cats though.

Get a cane toad so that you can periodically lick its back and trip balls.

....not sure if that would have any noticeable effect on your thread content, however.

Have you consulted with the reptile in question? Maybe it doesn't want to be part of your family. I can see where living under a rock in a swamp might be preferable.

were you ever consulted whether you wanted to be born?

I am taking reptiles and amphibians under my wing. They get luxury treatment. I see my lower evolved self when i see my reptiles, fish, and amphibians. If you had to live as a lower creature and were given a choice at where you go. You gonna choose the wild, where you can be eaten up any moment, or are you gonna choose the finely tuned environment of John or Jane's house

edit: Lower creatures might just be considered older, less evolved, therefore by definition, "higher creatures" cause they older(this might not make sense, thoughts?)

acquaintance of mine is breeding them. Hopefully through breeding, lifespan of dragons can increase

I'm in and out of peoples houses all day long these things sit in cages not much bigger than them for days on end. Then you got the kids that screw with them. Much rather be born in the wild. Good for you if you really let the thing run out of its cage and such all the time but not many people do. I'd still rather be born in my natural habitat where I can run, hunt and screw the sexy lizard chicks.

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart
Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star
Stay free where no walls divide you
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide
Born free and life is worth living
But only worth living
'Cause you're born free
Stay free…

We all see your "lower evolved self" every time you start a new thread.

maybe it's unintentional but you are pretending to empathize creatures with primitive minds. I don't think you understand how harsh the wild really is. You may say it sounds like fun, maybe you are trolling, but the food chain ain't fun. Animals who are owned and treated well by their servants have hit the lottery jackpot, cause they have successfully made it out of the food chain. To each own i guess

I hope you feel the same way when you're captured by aliens and added to their intergalactic zoo against your will. Or perhaps their intergalactic carnival freak show, whatever. I can let my dog out secure in the knowledge that she'll come back because she hit the motherload and is spoiled mercilessly. She's here by choice and wouldn't leave no matter what. If you can't open the cage and be sure the critter won't skitter off it's being held against its will. It wants to be free.

Very bold, maybe I'll take a wild guess and say you are libertarian. just guessing

you are saying we should legalize all drugs because freedom?(knowing a few will being willing to hurt themselves without those laws

I think you're projecting your anxiety out on these primitive minds. Those primitive minds just want to exercise their natural instincts in their natural habitat. Its not like dogs where the wilds mostly been bred out of them.

Amen my dog stays going out to an unfenced yard, no chain, sometimes he goes potty and comes right back other times he goes and checks out the neighbors mutts comes back, other times he just chills on the back deck soaking up the sun.

.
you are expressing a major form of speciesm. You are basically saying lower animals don't deserve safety and security, and should fend for themselves. Maybe what you are saying is unintentional, but you are basically saying we should never coexist with lower animals. We should eat them all instead. Also, you are treading on the idea that, it's better lower species should not flourish or exist. Very, may i say, extremely ironically speceist

But does your dog have the intelligence to know any better? You only like him cause he has evolved intelligence. Stupid creatures?? screw them....that is what you are saying in a nutshell

you are making subjective claims between animals which have vastly different requirements. The bacteria that you have on your body. Are you seriously gonna claim that you are not oppressing those individual bacteria?

This is besides the point, but my frogs never try to leave their aquarium, cause they are treated well.

You're delusional.

I know when I was a kid and my parents kept our dog in a cage half the day and never walked it, it would try to run away every chance it got.
