I'm behind a university LAN and we aren't allowed to have ports forwarded (this is to keep us from running servers out our dorm). Occasionally, I am out (wherever in the world) and I need to access a file on my computer. Usually, I could just use FTP, but because I cannot get a port forwarded this is not an option.

Is there any way for me to be able to access data on my computer via the internet without forwarding any ports?

Yup, I second Hamachi. Excellent way and very easy to setup a VPN.

IIRC recent versions of Laplink can connect w/o port forwarding. How it works is that the client connects to their service and thus opens a port. Then you can connect to it remotely regardless of IP address or ports. It isn't free software though.

Hamachi is easier. You can map the network drives and access then via explorer.
