Want a real good, small digital camera (have Canon G2 now)

I go to a lot of amusement parks and I'm tired of lugging around my G2, so I want a smaller camera. I'm thinking of the Canon Elph S410.
It doesn't seem to allow you to turn down the flash intensity like with my G2, which I use often for close up photos that would otherwise be way too bright/white. Maybe Exposure Compensation would take the place of it (I haven't tried it), or something else? No, I'm not a pro by any means.
Nor can you set aperature or shutter speed (though I rarely use these).
How are night photos? I think it's F-stop can't go as high as a G2.

Other thoughts on it or others?

hey, it really depends what you need and what you do with the cam.

I have a S230 which has a fantastic 640x480 video mode. It's main advantage is its size. I take it everywhere we go, vacations, holidays etc. Already did a lot of great videos using Vegas 4.0. Of course you canot compare it to a G2 - but i would not want t carry a big cam to the places we go 🙂

It's low-light capabilities are kinda limited...ie. you do have the 'extra long shutter' up to 15 secs for long-night exposures....but for normal night/low-light snapshots its rather average. For all other conditions (and for its size) its a great 'point and shoot' - not to forget the constant amazement that this cam also does pretty good videos. But dont get an elph if you want 'professional grade' stills...as said.it all depends 🙂

Not sure about the S410...i only know the S400 which is 'slightly' better optically...but it has only 320x240 vids...i a glad i got the S230 with the larger video

I got the S400 (also own a G3) and i'm very happy with it. Small, light, and does what i need it for. I don't care about the video mode, and night shooting is ok. There is no noise in night shooting, but not being able to set the shutter for low light is kind of frustrating.

s410 = s400 with an extra button.

They also have the S-500 out now, dont know if there are any extra features.

This week OM is offering a 256 memory card with the SD-100 (3.2MP). Combined with readily available coupons makes a nice deal.

Does anyone know any features right off if the Pentax Optio S4 lacks anything important that the Canon SD100, SD100, S410, or S500 has? Or picture quality, or speeds (power up, recording to card)? steves-digicams doesn't seem to test times and dpreview doesn't seem to have reviewed these models.

Edit - removed SD10

Sony W1

This looks like a great camera. MSRP of 399 is not bad for a just released camera (just wait for Dell coupons). It uses regular AA and has a huge 2.5 LCD. The only drawback is Memorystick

the black one is dead sexy!

I'd hit it!!!!!!!!!!11

well, since that hasn't come out yet, I guess you can settle with the Sony T1

the SD10 and SD100 (Ixus in Asia) has no Optical zoom, that's quite a set back if you want quality pic when zoomed.

The SD100 and the SD110 both have 2x optical zoom. The SD10 has no optical zoom

I've read that the S4 has some noise in night shots. I haven't seen any noise with my s400. Also, another thing, you already have a G2 with compact flash. You'd have to buy new memory cards for the S4 as it is SD media. S400 is compact flash. That was the major deciding factor for me.

Awesome. I was thinking about that a little while ago and was thinking the S4xx might be SD also, since it's so small. I do take night/dark shots, so definately want something that does well in that area. I just wish they'd put anti-shake in still cameras (disregarding the pro cameras if they have it).

Have there been any hot deals on it the S410? Are there any now? Wondering if I should wait to see if one pops up. I just need it by the end of the month. 🙂

Also, does anyone know what the fastest Compact Flash the Canon S4xx series can take advantage of? I'm about to buy some more since there's some good deals on the Viking, etc, but they're 16x and lower, but supposedly (as someone in dpreview forums said) my G2 can only take advantage of about 16x anyway, but if the S410 would be faster with a higher speed CF, I'll pay the extra. For me, my G2 takes too long to write to the card before I can take another pic. Surely being newer, the S4xx would be faster.

I just bought a Pentax Optio S4... it's awesome. And it fits into an Altoids can. 🙂

I've got the Pentax Optio S ... I was wondering if the S4 fixed the slow in-between shots?
