want a new card, what should I get.

I currently have an eVGA 6800Ultra AGP card in my computer, I'd like to upgrade and haven't kept up on video cards. What current agp cards will beat my 6800 ultra?

7800GS
 
6800 Ultra is already a very good AGP card. If you want to upgrade now, upgrade your entire motherboard; otherwise it won't be worth the money you spend.

heh 6800 ultra...nice card back in the day albeit expensive.

answering your question, it would be the X850 cards and the 7800GS. or the gainward agp- bridged 7900GT thats only for sale in the UK.
 
Don't bother ... as of now theres no AGP card thats significantly faster then your 6800 Ultra, in fact after reading a ton of benchmarks & opinions I came to the conclusion the same could be said for the 6800GT I replaced about a month ago.

Either stick with what you have for awhile longer, or bite the bullet & move to PCI Express.
 
good pci-E mobo's cost rounf 60-70 bucks. get one one those and a x1800xt/7900gt. thats probably the only way to get a significant performance boost.

Get this motherboard, which supports both AGP and PCI-E. Get an Opteron CPU if you don't have an AMD.

Then, use your 6800 Ultra and look until you find a good deal on a PCI-E card.

That only makes sense if someone is upgrading either the cpu but not the video card. Since the OP hasn't said that he was changing the cpu, the asrock isn't a good idea.

Toms benchmarks shows that the gimped 7800gs isn't worth it over the 6800u.

My post is a suggestion assuming he wants to upgrade his video card to PCI-E as already suggested by many in this thread!
Obviously, he does not have to do it. It is just an option for him.

But, this motherboard allows him to upgrade in steps since he can use his AGP card until he finds a good deal on a PCI-E card.
So, he does not have to try to find three deals at once.
He did not say what CPU he had. He may already have a socket 939 CPU.

the x850xt and 7800GS are marginally faster than the 6800u . . . if the price difference is small [selling your old one and buying a new one], go for it, if not, don't bother.

the x850xt is my last APG card . . . i will do the big upgrade late next year [pcie2 anyone?].
[unless there is a miracle and we see an AGP x1900xtx . . . i doubt it]

 
thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll stick with my card for a while longer, I'm runnin an A8V Deluxe with corsair 2-2-2-5 ram, and a 3200+ Winchester core, I think the upgrade I want will be the 3700+ San Diego due to its overclocking capabilities, perhaps that will give me the performance boost I want
 
You want PCI-Express, but if you NEED to stay on AGP get the eVGA 7800GS SuperClocked (the one clocked 460/1350). It's substantially faster than the 6800U.

If you are going to OC you might consider a cheaper Opteron or even lower-end A64, assuming you can find one.
