I was in the same situation and demoed all those monitors. BenQ is the best by far. I picked up the BenQ G2400W and love it

Is the V2400W a "newer" G2400W?

It looks to have a bit better specs and has newer styling.

I also have a G2400WD and I love it. Seems to run cooler than the Samsung as well, if that's a concern. The Samsung definitely gets very warm at the vents in the back, the BenQ only a little. Lower power draw, I think

$300 for a new 24 inch monitor! :D :D :D

someone else offered a 24 inch MPVA for $300 as well, so i do want to check that out as well, but as it stands i'm going with this.

V2400W is slightly better than G2400WD and G2400WD is better than G2400W.
V2400W>G2400WD>G2400W

G2400W is replaces by G2400WD first and now G2400WD is out of stock in US. The closest model to G2400WD is V2400W except these 2 look very different

I have owned the V2400W for about 3 months and just can not love it more. Take advantage of free shipping and thankyou10 from BenQ store. It could not beeing a better timing to buy now.

If you can get an M-PVA panel (whose is it?) for $300 I would jump on it, assuming it's reasonably recent. No TN panel is comparable to M-PVA or S-PVA, the difference is night and day.

Is the price difference between the G2400W and FP241** worth it?

BenQ 24" FP241VW LCD(1000:1,DVI,HDMI,S-Video,1080p) 566.44
BenQ 24" FP241W LCD(1000:1,S-Video,HDMI,1080p) 566.44
BenQ 24" FP241WZ LCD(1000:1,S-Video,HDMI) 772.47 (out of my budget)
BenQ 24" G2400W LCD(4000:1,DVI,HDMI,1080p) 296.03

G2400W is a TN panel good for gaming beacuse of its fast response time
FP241XX is a MVA panel, better color reproduction which means better picture quality and viewing angle. Not as fast response time as a TN can go though.

Worth the price difference or not really depends on what your are going to use your monitor for.

Thanks, that is useful information. I already have a TN panel 1680x1050 (Dell 2208WFP) that I have no problems with gaming. The color reproduction and viewing angles do have room for improvement though.

I don't mind spending more for the nicer FP241XX model. Is gaming going to be "bad" on one of these panels? I suspect it would still be doable right? If all else fails I can just go back to my TN panel for gaming, but I'll be at 16x10 instead of 19x12.

I game on my P-MVA/M-PVA/AvP [jk on last one] Soyo Topaz S, 24". It says it has 6ms response times. It's fine for me, or I've adapted, or something (I sucked at UT3 anyways until just recently).

Currently OfficeMax has a $350 26" Soyo TN.

I can also get the Viewsonic 25.5" VA2626WM (xtknight says it's a VA panel) for $435, which is actually $100+ less than the BenQ FP241xx - enough difference towards a decent gaming video card upgrade should I ever need one..

Something must be up, it's bigger _and_ cheaper?

oops, just re-read the response.. the VA2626WM is indeed a TN panel.

I really don't like the look of V2400W, but if the image quality is alot better then G2400WD I'll get it. Does v2400w do things better overall then G2400wd? Such as playing movies, and picture quality.

for those discussing the differences gaming on a TN vs a VA panel, you can read more in the LCD thread. suffice to say though, it isnt about response times on the monitors so much as input lag from the video adapter to what you see on screen. P(VA) panels have the worst input lag of any panel type and are not recommended for gaming at all as their input lag is usually between .5-.9 of a second, where as TN panels are between 0-.2 of of a second. if you want the best of both worlds you will have to buy an IPS panel, which tends to cost about twice as much as a TN panel does at its cheapest. the input lag on them is usually in the .2-.3s range though which is acceptable for gaming and the color production is amazing. as far as where this input lag issue comes from, certain monitors use upscalers/downscalers to scale to resolutions other than their non-native resolution, and some of them are better at doing this quickly than others. even with the monitor running at native though, some monitors have serious issues with input lag since they dont have a way to bypass the scaler all together. almost all monitors suffer from some sort of input lag, its just that P(VA) panels have it the worst. i dont just speak from reading this on some site somewhere though either. i gave gaming a go on a rig frys had set up for a couple days this summer to demo a new system they were selling. it had an OCed QX9770 and dual GTX280s, and by the end of the half hour i spent playing on it they swapped the monitor (gateway XHD3000 30 inch) out for an apple cinema display since the input lag was virtually unplayable in shooters as everyone was a second ahead of you.

I have the 245BW and have no heat problems at all, I haven't seen the BenQ model in real but once calibrated I find the Samsung to give a VERY good picture and colors overall (for a 6bit + HiFRC).

Now, if you can get BenQ's VA model (I think it was the FP241W) that's another story - far better picture quality, especially color reproduction and viewing angles and I think many people do game on it so I guess it's ok for that. Go with it an you wont regret - the market is leaning more an more towards TN an I think soon you wont be able to find anything other than TN at least for that price (other than second hand).

Here is a thread I found at another forum
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1348592

It seems many people have the same feeling toward this assymetrical design. I was kinda not very positive too at the beginning. But seriously, I like it a lot when I see it in reality. It's very sleek and slim. There is nothing cheap or weird about its design and material. How good V is compare with G2400WD is hard to say. Form all I read at Hard forum saying that these 2 are pretty close. I can not comment if V is better than G2400WD but all I can say is that V is one of the best things I got for my setup and I just love it.

How does V2400W compare to the Samsung 2443BW? The Samsung is actually cheaper by $80. Both use TN panels.

edit - V2400W has HDMI input. Samsung's stand is height-adjustable with tilt, swivel, rotation.
