Want a dark scary kinda game

Suprised no one mentioned Condemned, its on sale at D2D right now for only $3.50.

Condemned isn't scary, it is just in need of lighting. God that game is dark for no reason but to make you use your flashlight.

Cryostasis seemed like it was going to be very good. I liked the idea and the first 20 or so minutes. Too bad it always crashed after that so I couldn't get into it.

System Shock 2 played in a dark room with headphones is still the gold standard of scary, creepy games imo.

^ THIS! IF you can find System Shock 2, BUY IT! Don't think twice, buy the game and enjoy the flippin' hell out of it! It's atmospheric, intelligent, complex, and incredible all at the same time! Completely worth buying!

Clive Barker's Undying. It's an older game from 2001, but it's the scariest FPS I've ever played. Scarier than FEAR, Doom (1,2,or3), Bioshock, or Thief.

STALKER for sure. The tunnels are some scary stuff, and I've never seen a game show night as dark as it actually is. Creepy might be more accurate than scary though.

The Penumbra series isn't the best looking graphically (although is still looks pretty good), but it's very cheap and extremely scary. The game does a great job at setting a scary, desolate mood before you even encounter any sort of real trouble. For $10 or whatever it is, it's a great deal.

Fallout 3 isn't the scariest game, but there are some pretty scary parts. Some of the abandoned (or semi-abandoned) vaults you find are creepy as hell, and if you mod it properly it can get very, very dark at night. Actually, the same could be said of STALKER. It's not scary most of the time, but there are creepy parts and nighttime can be very dark and foreboding.

System Shock 2 is a MUST. It's a mind trip and an amazing game. The sound is one of the best parts of it. There is just a quality to it that hasn't really been reproduced by another game that I've played.

Amen to that!!! Just grab some mods to up the texture resolution as the game looks bad (and it's my top 3 favorite game, ever!). I was seriously on the edge when playing this game. The atmosphere is so thick and intense and so amazing in this game. I don't remember enjoying another game as much as System Shock 2, ever.

Definitely Condemned. That was a good one. Sleeper too. I don't know how so many people missed it. The whole thing is pretty creepy. Stalker for sure. And then Metro 2033 is not bad for a current gen game.

Does this hold up now, graphically. I know the atmosphere will still be awesome, but how good are those textures? Even the textures I saw a few years ago looked dated.

Most of the game holds up fine, it's only the human character models that look pretty weird (especially the heads).

you get used to it pretty quickly, though. I just replayed a lot of it a few weeks ago.

As Via said, it's ok I guess. Still blocky but at least the textures look a lot better. Not really up to today's standards, but still better than vanilla.
