Want a 2500K. How Long Will It Last?

Looking at the Haswell thread, people are mentioning Haswell to be 10-15% better clock-for-clock versus SB. I'm not sure where that is coming from, but if true, I'll be holding my 2600K for an extremely long time... I can't believe I've already been on LGA 1155 for a year and half now. It still feels like brand new hardware.

And I also agree that for gaming, i5-2500K (or 3570K) is the way to go. Even if you're not a BF3 player, it is an indication of what should come in the future.

Ur running a 680 with a 480 for a physx card? I'd sell that 480!!

The 480 was my dedicated GPU before the 680. It's just not worth it to me to end up selling it for $150 minus shipping, considering the performance it still brings to the table. It now makes an amazing backup card should ever happen to my 680, so I could still game very comfortably while waiting on RMA. But with it having just sat around, I figured to give it a shot as a dedicated PPU. It works pretty nicely in Batman AC, and eventually BL2 when that drops a little bit in price.

No regrets here keeping the 480. 😀

it also has less OC headroom due to it being molten lava.
Yeah I don't think this is fair or true. The Ivy Bridge uses less power so it produces less heat. Only issue is removing the heat from a smaller surface which is a predictable result from a die shrink.

With proper cooling the IB has as much or MORE OC headroom, you just can't OC as EASY as you can with SB.

Still nothing wrong with SB if you can get a deal on the 2500k...
