I have to admit, I looked at gameplay footage and fail to see how this game is any different than the 20 other games just like it on consoles and pc's already...

Then you are blind. There is no other game like it (besides Demons Souls). It has a big following for a reason.

Maybe they need better footage. Looks like your standard hack and slash. Wasn't dissing it, it is what it is. Don't go all fanboi on me.

What's different is how the game punishes and rewards your play and lets you play how you want:

-You can wear light or heavy armor, light armor lets you move faster and use less stamina, but you take more damage, and heavy armor makes you slow and use more stamina but you take less damage With heavy armor you can take more damage before your poise breaks where your character drops his guard.

-You can build your character as a full melee, full ranged, caster, or a mix and wear according armor or invest into the stats you want

-You can't just chug potions whenever or pause the game (lol skyrim combat), you get a limited amount of potions and there is a long animation involved, if you use a potion at the wrong time and get attacked you will lose it and gain nothing for making a mistake

-Everything in the game is blockable or dodgable, if you get hit it's because you messed up, bosses don't have a gimmick. The bosses are meant to be hard, if you die, it's your fault and you can learn from your mistakes. The game really punishes you for making mistakes.

-You have stamina, you use up stamina when you roll, block, attack or get hit. So you have time everything perfect, you cant just hack away and chug potions.

-If you die, you go back to the last bonfire you used (a check point throughout the world), all the enemies minus bosses respawn, you keep all your gear and world changes stay, but you drop all your souls where you died (the game currency for upgrades/armor), if you do not make the same mistake and run back to your body before you die again from screwing up, you simply pick up your lost souls, if you die again, you lose all your souls. And you can only replenish your potions at bonfires.

-The story and dialogue is meh, but the graphics and atmosphere are amazing

-There is a ton of gameplay time, I'm on my first play through, 55 hours in, got 2 more areas to clear I think so prob 60-70 hours of gameplay for first play through. Then you can play it on New game plus where you keep your character, but the game gets a lot harder. Or you can play a completely different playstyle

-The online is great, you can invade other people's games and kill them, taking their souls and ruining their day. They can do the same to you. You can summon players to help you with bosses you can't beat. You can leave notes on the ground giving tips to other players, which is the only way of communication in the game.

Theres other details that you will see if you ever play the game, but demon soul and dark souls are the best action RPGs i've ever played. People who don't play them are really missing out.

Well, it is very hard to tell the difference between a normal game being played by a bad player, and a mean spirited game being played by a good player. It's hard to visually capture "Designed by a man going through a painful divorce for his ex-wife."

Demon's Souls: Dragon God. Dark Souls: Bed Of Chaos. It's got gimmick bosses.

I couldn't stand the ridiculously difficult mechanics of Demon's Souls (move two feet die, move two more feet die, move three feet die, shatter disk into a thousand pieces and throw those pieces in the garbage disposal), but I'm always happy to see high-quality games come to PC even if I don't like them.

Saying it is your 'standard hack and slash' is the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Even from foreign trailer footage before the release of Demons Souls, it was obvious this game was unique. This is why it gained such a big following before Demons Souls was localized (which then in turn caused the Western release).

I'm not being a "fanboi"; I'm just commenting on the ridiculousness of your statement. What else do you expect when you go into a thread about a game and then make a completely off the wall comment? It would be like going into a Half-Life 2 thread and saying "oh this looks like another call of duty"

Anyway, no hard feelings. Next time, be a bit more thorough with your research.

What was gimmicky about them? :S You still had to time when to dodge and attack...and if you got hit you die.

They are more like puzzles rather than actual fights. You never directly damage them, and have to instead figure out how to use the environment. Also screw bed of chaos. Suddenly I have to time my jump? I died the most on that boss.

There are other games very much like it. From Software has been developing games that this derives from for years. The biggest differences in Demon's Souls and King's Field series (PS1 and PS2) is the camera perspective.

Demon's Souls 'plays' like a mixture of King's Field,Otogi and Kuon. All of which are From Software games.

I have never heard of Dark Souls. Is it a current game?

Yes, it is a 360/PS3 game that is a very good game that has mixes eastern and western rpg tropes and cranks the difficulty to 11. The biggest drawback to it is that the frame rates can drop significantly in some levels. While it doesn't stop the game from being great, being released on the PC would solve all problems.

Bumping this thread because the petition signature rate has started to stagnate. If anyone has any glimmer of interest in this game at all, please sign.

Signing a petition doesn't mean a damn thing. It doesn't give them enough info as to if they'll make enough money back or not. Any jackass can be asked to sign a petition regardless of if they believe in the cause or not. They should go the Double Fine route and have a Kickstarter Page to get some actual money rolling behind these petitions.

The devs said they'll consider porting the game if we make enough noise about it. I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and not automatically think they are screwing with their fans.

If they port this to PC, as people want, I guarantee within 24 hours of release someone will post here that the game sucks because "it's a shitty console port".

usually because 99% of the time it is true. most companies seem to half-ass it when doing console to pc ports.

Gotta say that I am not sure the game play would translate onto PC. Yes, in most things PC gaming is GOD. But the nature of the combat is such that it was designed around a controller. And I don't think that Kb&M would translate as well. Yes, gamers could get a controller for their PC, but there would have to be a Kb&M control scheme in place for the game. And i just don't see it working (in this case) as well as it should.

And really the death system was what ramped up the challenge. I would be surprised if it would be as good with any kind of a 'save' feature. But I am prepared to be wrong on this one.
