Wanna hear some REAL guitar playing??

Vai is a technical player, but lacks feeling in his playing. He has more emotion than someone like Satch but his guitar sounds like a digital keyboard since it's so fvcking processed. There is no doubt he is a good player but his work bores me.

Feel is all subjective. Some people dig Vai. I find Satch equally as boring as Vai in my book.

damn straight. no emotion whatsoever in his sound. awesome guitar player but sounds like just like a computer.

Vai is just as boring as Yngwie, but they all sound cool the first time. Then you realize that they are just playing scales really fast, and you head right back to Hendrix.

Well, I only listen to blues only once in while. I guess if it's too processed, then it's not how they used to do it. Ah, well.

Get yourself some Robert Cray, Chet Atkins, SRV (though a lot of his style is Hendrix esque, he has way more feeling than Hendrix did).

The processed term everyone is throwing out is Via's fixation with his Eventides.

Steve Vai sucks!!!! 😛

Wish I had some video, would love to see them play that.

I had the video to this for a while. Years back off of kazaa I think.

Ditto on the video, but not from kazaa 😛

I love Vai, however I never found Eugenes Trick Bag all that inspiring really. If you want to impress people with Vai's music upload some songs like: For the Love of God, or Whispering a Prayer or Bad Horsie, or Juice, or something along that line.

I'm convinced that for most people, as soon as they hear a technically proficient guitarist they are preprogrammed to think, "He lacks feeling." And yet no one ever accuses proficient classical musicians of that. It's become accepted practice in the rock & roll world that you don't actually need any real skill to be "good", and thus anyone who does have skill is labeled cold or devoid of feeling. Play a Chopin or Beethoven piece on the piano and it's well received. Transpose it to guitar, and those very same people will tell you that you're just wanking.

Couldn't have said it better. Steve Vai has so much emotion in his music that people don't even realize it is emotion. And to those who say his guitar play is "processed", you are wrong. He just happens to be able to get many, many more sounds out of the guiatar than your average guitarist.

Uh... because skilled performers of Beethoven and Chopin don't "lack feeling" like Vai does? Quite simple, really. Not to mention the fact that his music lacks feeling, whereas theirs doesn't.
