I have done several of the problems, I just wanna make sure they are right........and need some help on the others

If it says = something thats my answer i came up with

1. Given a regular deck of cards find the probability of each occuring

a. drawing a black card=26/52 or .5
b. drawing a black five=2/52
c. drawing the ace of spades=1/52
d. drawing a black card foloowed by red 10 (without replacement)=26/52*2/51
e. drawing red 10 followed by red ace(WR)=2/52*2/51
f. drawing ace of spades followed by a red card(WR)=1/52*26/51

2. Given a bag of 10 marbles with 3red,5blue,2green find following

With replacement

a. red marble, followed by blue marble=3/10*5/10
b. red,red=3/10*3/10

Without replacement

c. red,blue=3/10*5/9
d. red,red=3/10*3/9
e. red,red,blue=3/10*3/9*5/8

3. There are 27 people in your class. 3 are to be chosen for class pre.,class sec.,and class clown

a. how many different ways can people be selected for the different office?
b. how man different groups can be selected from the class without regards to the offices?

4. According to random survey data 35% of all US households have a cell phone. If you contacted 15 people at random, what is the probability that

a. every person has a cell phone
b. more than four people contacted have a cell phon
c. fewer than 5 have a cell phone
d. more than seven have cell phone
e. compute mean and standarad deviation of this probability distribution

5. According to your teacher about 45% of the people in the class are transient students. If you choose 9 people at random, what is the probabilty that

a. no one is a transient
b. fiveor less are transient
c. 7 or more are transient
d. 2 or more are transient
e. compute the mean and standard deviation

btw...what is stat?

stat = right now, like in those doctor shows. 10 CCs of hemostuffy, stat. 🙂

grr, damn you ElFenix. 🙂 Note to self, do not check spelling and grammer.

Everything has an answer already. Oh, and BTW d, e and f are wrong.

As stated above without replacement. If you do replace the cards then e and f are correct.

LOL. How much $ we talking about here...

I could tell you how to solve it, but you wouldn't learn that way. Besides, it'd be unfair to the other students. Have you had discrete math yet?

when you have two independent probabilities, the probabilities of both of them occuring is the product of their probabilities. for example probability of drawing an ace of spade and then drawing an ace of diamonds = (1/52)*(1/51)

basically when you read the problem out to yourself and the conditions contain the word "and" then you know you have to multiple. and when you hear the word "or" you know you have to add. also make sure when you do a problem without replacement, that means the total possibilities are not the same once you draw the first marble/card/etc. with that in mind, i think u can easily do the entire thing without paying anyone $6.
