Nothing really. My CU has similar features BUT its much easier to find a WAMU ATM than a credit union ATM.

I like my PNC account for one thing only. No ATM fees. Even if I use someone elses ATM, they refund any surcharge that the ATM owner charges.

They don't charge you for things many other banks would. For instance, I have to keep a 2000 minimum in my wells fargo checking account or they fine me a 12 dollar service fee each month. I can let my wamu drop down to a penny with no repurcussions. Also not being charged for using my debit card at a non-wamu atm seems pretty nice even though I was already happy with them before....

EDIT: I do realize that wamu isn't easlily accessible for everyone though, they're focused more in certain areas...

Am I missing something?

Clearly you are. People who are customers of WAMU are now getting improvements. Where is the confusion here?

 I've had my Wells Fargo account for quite some time and have never been charged any type of fee for going below any type of balance. In fact, my 2nd wells fargo account usually has a balance of around $10.00 without any problems.

Yep advantage checking is what I have. I earn interest (a tiny tiny percent) on my balance as well as getting free checks.

hmm maybe they only charge people who opened an account recently (within the last year). If you go to their site and click on checking, under advantage account it says I need 2000 or 5000 combined to waive the 12 dollar fee (which is what they charged me when my balance dropped below that for a couple months). Guess you lucked out...

free checking at WaMu offers:
- free bill pay (just that alone is a huge plus in my book)
- free electronic correspondence (no need to keep stacks of voided checks and statements - click and print them if you want)
- now free wire transfers
- no ATM fees
- email alerts

That could be it. I've had my account with them since 2000

Yesterday I saw a huge billboard in SF from WaMU: '3c back on every purchase. Ask us about the details'
I forgot to ask the customer support what that was about. I'll ask in the bank

Kinda sucks you have to go into a branch to get the account upgraded, but at least they will do it. I think I've been inside a wamu exactly once since I've had my account.

I went into the branch today, and it took 3 minutes total from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out.
A nice lady with an awesome pair of (.)(.) changed my account setting to '89' or smth like that - and I was good to go. They also issued me a new debit card (Mastercard instead of Visa). Now you get back 3c back from every transaction on your debit card, $250 per year max. Awesome deal, since I never carry cash and I use debit card for everything.

You get your rebate annually on the anniversary of your account opening.
