WAMU FTW!!

now to get these companies to hand out free money for the free checks for the free checking accounts (with other free extras) that these banks offer. 🙂

[end of] surcharge for withdrawals made at non-Wamu ATMs,

About damned time! "Free checking," my fanny!

A buck fifty to check balance on a non-WaMu ATM, and a quarter per withdrawal. I'm glad to see those fees go!

Hmmm...how is this better than other banks out of curiosity? I belong to a credit union who not only doesn't charge me for using non-bank ATM's, but they also refund any 3rd party fees I get charged. My checks are free, but I barely use them anyhow, and they automatically take money out of savings if I ever overdraft.

Am I missing something?

So apparently this does NOT apply to current accounts. From wamu.com

"WaMu Free Checking? benefits not available with Free Checking accounts opened prior to 3/11/06."

I guess. My wife and I both have separate wamu free accounts, neither of which carry these benefits. We were going to roll one account into the other to combine them. I'm thinking now we'll just open a new combined account so we can get the benefits.

I was taking a break yesterday during lunch, walked downstairs and saw two girls handing out a promotion to their new free checking. Inside was a $2 dollar bill!

I just gave customer support a call. They said your existing account can be converted to a new one at any branch. Just come into the office, and it will be taken care of.
