I think the guys posting in that thread have no idea what salt water can do to a car like that... or any car for that matter.
 
The only real difference is that on the Ferrari, the electronics were probably already broken. ;P

I did LOL at 'it's just got rusty rotor bolts!'

Still, that's some lazy-ass shit for any car. I've seen wrecker drivers use a lot more care winching up smashed 'normal person' cars.
 
There was a pretty good article in a recent EVO about how much damage is needed to total a modern super car. Just about nothing short of a fire will do it.

See? You can drive it around at the bottom of the ocean as long as it doesn't catch fire.

Rowan Atkinson's McLaren F1. 2nd time he's crashed it. His insurer paid a British record of £910,000 to get it repaired.

i'd hate to know what his premiums are like! 😱 (though obviously he can afford it)

salt water does nasty things to metal...it's crazy how much corrosion protection goes into some things.

Once it gets into the interior, that's shot, you could not start it and flush out the crankcase and fuel systems but all the electrical connectors would need replacing, basically a complete wiring harness then the places where it didn't drain/dry out you can't see, it's basically a parts car now...
 
It was appraised at about $3 million, and the insurance company took 8 months to decide whether they would pay for the repairs or not.

That's because they were waiting for someone to respond to a post in ATOG asking if the car will be totaled or not.
