Walmart worker strikes spread across the country

Unskilled laborers can not successfully strike. Walmart will just fire them all and hire the next group of teenage mothers that walk in.

If they time it well they might. It requires at least some knowledge about how to run a cash register so a strike around a major shopping day (Blakc Friday) would have a noticeable effect on Walmart's profits on that week/weekend.

That said - they didn't time this well.

I hope every walmart shuts down forever.

I think the loss of 1.4 million jobs and the second largest company in the world closing down might have a slightly noticeable effect on the economy

I see the yapping dogs of hyper-capitalism are puking up their gravy-train of pro-billionaire, anti-worker rubbish again. The Waltons thank you for your support. Maybe, someday the knee jerk dupes of the right will consider where their personal interests lay and stop carrying water for the elites.

It's usually rare that you see people mocked and condemned for acting selflessly (without regard for self) and in the interest of others. But it seems pretty common when people mock those on the "right."

There are 14.8 million union jobs in the US and conservatives want to shut them down.

You can start beating the shit out of scabs and bosses though.

I agree a man crosses the line he is open to combat with the people who are fighting for a better life , But now goobermment steps in with national guard . They treat gooberment unions differantly the private unions. Racism is the same and americans don't like racisn and will die for it . But this form of racism they blindly look away as they know the bottom line will be higher pricies . see how it works. cowards we be self interest we are.

A local grocery store is closing because the union drove costs up so high that it makes more sense for the owner to close than to stay open.

The average per-employee wage was $19/hr plus $9/hr in benefits, which he was forced to provide through the union. Had the store been able to supply their own benefits, it'd have been closer to $6/hr and the benefits would have been far superior.

More than that, though, $19/hr for a bagger at a grocery store is ludicrous. That's more than my wife made last year as a teacher.

So you are saying that people that make minimum wage and that mostly use government welfare to survive are going to lose on this deal? What could they lose besides their shitty jobs?

you really think this is going to improve anything? these are intro level retail jobs. usually taken up by high school, college, retired and disabled. people that 20 hours is perfect. yeah these people have a lot to lose. a job that that fiths what they need

Then again its a unskilled job..

the union is going to do jack shit for them.

they are stockign shelves an sweeping floors. they want a better job? finish college and get one.

but eventually the union will win. they have to much power with the govenment. how much do you really think they are going to get walmart to pay? 19 bucks a hour? lol not going to happen. at most they will get .50 to a buck more. and healht insurance? LOL NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

so they are going to get at most 19 bucks a monht. how much are union dues? lol

at the end only people that are going to be better after this is the union.

Yes, a hugely positive effect.

Er, no.

Not counting the 1.4 million people that work there, there are many millions more who make use of the lower prices. Even a 10% increase in prices (roughly the increase from Walmart to Target) would have a noticable effect on those people.

Yeah, they'd have to buy less garbage. Maybe a couple less lottery tickets a week too.

If you are going to use that standard, then isn't every American who buys products they know are made using labor exploitation also guilty, an example would be the I-Phone

Americans are not large corporations, we have little influence. Costco is a large corporation and actively contracts out to these exploitative companies. These exploited employees are actively working at Costco locations. These are second class exploited labor that interact with the shoppers.

People that think they are entitled to more money...amazing.
I'm sure Walmart pays at least minimum wage. Don't like getting paid minimum wage? Get an education and increase your earning potential.

You mean like the wise smart people down at my local SS office I grew up with these people . There ignorant they are criminal and most of all completely not needed

That's a pretty ridiculous statement. Especially considering that those who benefit the most from stores like Walmart are the low income consumers who shop there and can get more bang for their buck compared to shopping at the more expensive retail/warehouse stores. In fact Wal Mart's success comes from being the most affordable place to shop for anyone who is budget conscious.

You're alternative is to drive up the costs for consumers and lower their standard of living. Awesome and I'm sure everyone is lining up to pay more money in order to receive less for what they purchase.

Waggy if everthing falls apart , I want to see what this so called Skilled workers have . The sun could knock the electrical grid out for a couple of years. I will align my self with unskilled people . As chances of survival will be greater . These unskilled people Farm hunt fish They know how to live . I can just see some of skilled labor tring to hook up with these unskilled groups . The hanging would be quik and justified as these people would be a burden

1) you are a idiot. critical thinking is not your strong point

2) if you think only "unskilled" hunt/fish/etc you are a bigger idiot then i thought.

3) if you think unskilled in the event of a such a disaster are going to be in a better shape then "skilled" labor you are in for shock. i also refer to #1.

yeah lets hang out with a bunch of people that have no skill. instead of farmers (btw that is a skilled job) carpenters (again skilled position) etc.

you stick with your friends who can stock shelves and run a register. im sure you will be fine.

When I was a young boy in the 1950's, and the US economy and its strong middle class was the economic model for the entire world. As somewhat the basis for that strong US middle class was it organized labor.

Here we are 50 years later, the US middle class is a diminished and endangered species, and now we somehow think that labor unions are the cause of that US decline?

As the top 1/2% of the American people now have the lion share of national wealth and that will be in the US national interests.

And if we crush more unions, the top 1/2% will stop exporting more American jobs over seas.

Yea Horray for a strong and growing minimum wage retail sector, as we forget to ask, what happens when the American consumer has no more money to pay for the foreign goods our retail sector wants to sell.
