Man, I have no idea where some of you guys are getting the idea that the average person could have even the remote possibility of installing an OS properly. Sure they MIGHT throw it in and have it work, but that would be luck not knowledge. I mean jeez, even half the A+ certified techs that work in locals stores around me can't even install an OS properly.
I agree that it is good to see systems sold without OS, however I just don't see Walmart having a lot of success selling these things. Sure, there will be the sales to people who know somebody that can do an install for them (probably illegally), but other than that I think they're gonna have a lot of returns and angry phone calls from people who don't know what they're doing.
BTW, people who don't know how to work with PC's are not necessarily stupid or morons. Many people just don't care/have the time to learn that aspect of them. There are plenty of very intelligent people who probably do much more difficult and important things than all of us here and just don't have time to sit around researching the latest driver bugs. At the same time, there are plenty of people who CAN setup a computer AND ARE morons. Their ability to read internet FAQs and follow instructions does not make them intelligent. Knowledge and intelligence are two different things and you guys seems pretty quick to label people who do not have the same knowledge as you as stupid.
As for the dude who said he didn't have time to build a machine for himself...huh???? You have time to install the OS and set it up, but not the 15 minutes it takes to screw the parts together????? The "building" (ie screwing it together) of the computer takes no time at all. You can do that while you're waiting for all your updated drivers to download, and then have a sandwich when your're done and still waiting for them. Sorry man, but no time to screw the parts together is a REALLY weak argument here....
