*sigh*
I can see it now. 3 years from now, "Sir, you need to show us your receipt. Sir, you need to step in this back scatter x-ray machine. Sir, time for us to grope your testicles. "

"Wal-Mart is a place where people gather, it's a place where you sometimes see your neighbor the most,"
If the latter half of that sentence is true, it's pretty pathetic.

Yes I'm sure we're all going to be shoved through wal-mart concentration camps in the near future and raped for the hell of it. That must be where this is headed.

I would blame Muslims for trillions spent and millions of lives inconvenienced because they are easy target but this has all become a boondoggle for the security surveillance state.

Reminds me of this article.

There should be a TV show starring David Hasselhof as a liaison from the department of homeland security investigating terrorist threats at walmart. It should be shot in black and white and with animation like team America world police and a 24 hours show theme like Jack Bauer...complete with much torture...

How many Orwell references do we need in this thread? Did you guys actually read the book? For god's sake it's nothing like modern America. It's almost as if you WANT to live in that world.

You see nothing in 1984 analogous to what the government is getting Walmart to cooperate with.

Seems you haven't read the book.

Since all of the major credit card companies are already on board with HLS, the data that Walmart can provide could be invaluable to national security. Itemized lists of every person's purchase. For example, the police could be waiting outside when someone buy's garbage bags, a hack saw, powdered lye, towels, rope, and condoms.

This is smart policing. Policing of the future.

If we have enough computing power, the Minority Report may not just be a movie.

What exactly is wrong with "if you see something, say something"?

Suddenly the gangster rap motto "don't snitch" is mainstream?

My fix for unemployment:

Become an 'anti terrorist' agent... we will need about 1 person in 10 for this job and the only qualification is that you have to be 100% loyal and turn in anyone with terrorist intentions!

or:

In soviet united states, Walmart role-back prices on you!
