Someone should invent a "WalBot", a device that automatically stocks shelves and cleans floors. That should let them cut back on even more lazy part-time Walmart employees.

HS kids and college students need places to work too, you know. Should they hire less people and pay them more, or should they hire more people and pay them less? I can't wait to hear your answer to this because obviously you hold advanced degrees in economics and spent years studying this subject.

Who the f*** are you to say that all part-time Walmart employees are lazy? Did you ever work a part time job in HS or College? or in between other jobs? Guess what, lots of people NEED those jobs to survive. It's either have no job and make $0, or have a crummy part-time job and make enough money to put food on the table.

I don't work at Walmart, and never have, but you people are f***ing stupid. Get your head out of the sand and realize that the world is more complex than just hourly wages.

good thing nobody is forced to work at wal-mart. im sure that they can go to target and get a full time job.

but in all honesty i am torn on this. One side i agree with wal-mart on it. cut cost where they can. but some people with no skills need a good job.

Home Depot (well Bob Nardelli anyways) tried this and it failed miserably.

don't have any stats. can you think of a way any researches can collect stats on this subject? maybe not majority, but there gotta be a good number of stealing done by employees. I had been there and done that ;)

Kinda missed the point, didn't you? Walmart is a massive multinational corporation. In companies that big, employees are treated as headcount and nothing more. If Walmart thinks that they can save some money by demoting a few thousand full time employees to part time status, they'll do it without thinking twice about it.

Seriously, if WalMart could save even more money by replacing a bunch of their low level staff with machines, they know they would do it. Let the PR department worry about the political backlash, not they would probably have much of one. In case you haven't noticed already, most WalMart customers care about price more than anything else.

Honestly, who gives a damn? It's a corporation. As long as it adheres to the law, Walmart can do whatever it wants to. Regardless of what a majority of (stupid) people believe, corporations have no responsbility to improve the world.

because its t he popular thing to do.

Lets just pick on one company and ignore the others even though they are just as bad. I have said it once I will say it again, The Best buy in our area pays on average 75cents less then the wally and has almost ALL part time employees so they dont have to have benefits. And I dont see them doing charity work outside their building or allowing foundations to funraise on their lots...

Rather than capping wages for those already working, how's about they do something more gradual? Like maybe change their hiring policies to look more for part time workers instead of full-timers?

This is true of any business. Car assembly - look how many welding jobs are taken up by robots, or indeed in many kinds of mechanical assembly. If a robot can do a job, it's going to get it. Robots don't need to be paid, they only require maintenance and electricity. They don't need meal breaks, they don't sleep, they don't want vacation, and they don't care if you want to work them to death. Any business will use robots anywhere they reasonably can. In theory, it leaves the more capable human minds free to do other more complicated tasks, which should improve society's overall productivity and quality of life. In theory. Unfortunately, too often it seems that the benefits go mainly to the executives who decided to lay off the expensive workers and replace them with cheap robots.
