I started this one because it looked as though the other one was having problems after 7 pages.

ebates.com
Go through ebates for all purchases. Walmart.com(3%)(Which I didn't🙁), buy.com(2%), dell.com(1%).

10% Off Deal.

If you got one of the N5125 Laptops from walmart.com. Call them and explain that they advertised the drive as 5Gig, when in fact HP Diags shows you the drive is 4.3Gig.
They should have this noted and give you no hassle about getting 10% credited to your card. If you get a hassle, just tell them they gave the discount to a friend of yours.

I ordered the NIC Card(Free after rebate) from Cyber Rebates(not a word!), but it's on order so I'm open to ideas for a CHEAP 10/100M PCMCIA NIC..

updating the hard drive is a snap, literally. To replace the hard drive simply remove the two screws holding the lcd cable cover, then pry very gently to the plasic above the keyboard, Once this is removed take out 4 screws holding the kb in place. Lift the top of the kb and slid slowly toward the lcd, then flip keyboard on to wrist rest. Next pull 4 screws holding HD enclosure, and pull up on strap. You can take it from here.

This I learned as I took the long way, from the bottom to the top. Kinda like trying to do brain surgery and going in throught the chest.

oh yeah, I have a linksys 10/100 Cardbus for $50, and thanks for the ram deal

For a good 10/100 NIC, check out Office Depot's Linksys 10/100 XJACK NIC. I should receive mine tomorrow. My entire network is setup using Linksys, and I can't complain.

Keep in mind that you'll want to add some rubber bands or paperclips to get you over $50 for free delivery and also be sure to use the $15-off-$50 coupon as well found in the above mentioned FW thread. My final cost for the NIC and some rubber bands was $37.60.

IIIBradIII, I don't think the Office Depot Linksys card has an XJACK. The description they have on their page is actually for the 3Com Megahertz PC-Card which does have an XJACK, but the picture is of the Linksys with a dongle.

Still, a good card and a good deal.

Here is a nice network card with no dongle..my brother has one of these and it works slick....$37.69 plus shipping..look here...Link

The pcm100 doesn't use a dongle and is still 10/100...just plug in your regular rj45 connector and your off to the races..no dongle to lose or break off..and still leaves a slot free too....

Do I smell another hot deals here, asking OD.com to give us the card that go along with their website's description.

I just checked hte googlegear drive.. They make their money off the shipping. Shipping at buy.com was about $5 and the drive has already shipped.. With ebates+buy.com I paid roughly 50 cents more.. And I know buy.com has a local warehouse to me..

My best buy.com deal.. On a Wednesday morning I ordered a TDK Velo CD and on Thursday I got it.. That was with standard ground shipping..

FYI, besides the dongle/integrated jack issue, there's also the issue of 16-bit PC Card vs. 32-bit CardBus. The Linksys at OD is the 16-bit version. IIRC, 16-bit PC Card has only like a 2MB/sec (?) bandwidth, whereas CardBus is modeled after PCI and has the full 132MB/sec bandwidth (HUGE difference, I know). This is why I've always thought 16-bit 10/100 NIC PC Card is a total joke, you CAN'T get anywhere close to normal 100BTX throughput because of this bottleneck.

This same problem occured when they first made 100BTX ISA cards, but not as bad (theoretically you have about 8-16MB/sec total bandwidth to share throughout the whole 8/16-bit ISA bus).

Of course, even 10BT (or slightly better) speed is enough if you just need to share the broadband connection and transfer small files...

Hmm, it seems like 3Com/Megahertz's the only one with XJack-type connector (must be patented, but I thought I remember seeing a couple of other brands also with this type connector). So now I can't decide between the dongle or the non-XJack integrated type (where they stick on a HUGE rectangular plastic doohickey with the RJ-45 jack at the end of the card). I don't want to deal with dongles, but I also don't like that big thing sticking out (and I must make sure to put that card on the top slot otherwise it would block both slots). So when I'm traveling I'll have to take the card out because it will get broken with that thing sticking out. With the dongle (or the retractable XJack) type I can leave the PC Card in as it will be flush with the outside of the notebook case.

The XJack really seems to provide the best of both worlds, too bad the card costs twice as much as the Linksys/Dlink/Netgear brands...

st63z, my dilema exactly. Tomorrow I'm calling OD though to see what they'll do about their misadvertisement. So far, I'm happy with the PCMPC100 - it's nice to not have that "doohickey" sticking out when I pack it up, and the cable is the most durable I've seen.

Anybody have any luck finding a battery? I checked my local Comp USA and they told me I would have to get it through HP.

I think that the extra 10% off deal is already dead. The description was already changed. It is now clear.
BTW it is also out of stock.

Indeed, the 10% is dead.

My problem is that I called on 2/8 to get the 10%. I did this only after seeing that they were handling ALL such requests this way, despite the fact that they had nothing to apologize for--as I argued on another thread here.

It ocourred with so little trouble that I neglected to write down the CSR's name, as I was in a hurry. (Whoops.)

When I check this AM, no CC credit. So I call up walmart.com, and speak to a very nice CSR. She says, no problem--there are no notes in your order #, but I'll get you the credit.

An hour later, she calls back, telling me that her supervisor chewed her out for "offering" me this. So I call her supervisor. "I'm sorry, but my boss's boss told me that we cannot authorize credits on this item." I explain that I ordered before the description was corrected, and was assured I'd get the credit. "I know, I understand, I see your point, but my hands are tied." Who can I contact about this? Well, I can write finance@walmart.com.

I will do this barring any better suggestions, but of course this doesn't sound too promising....

Anyone else have a similar experience? What's the best way to contact walmart on this? Suggestions welcome.
