I am happy with mine. Even with the default 64MB it plays dvd's pretty well. One drawback I have heard is battery life, I haven't tested the battery yet.

I upgraded the ram to 192 MB($62 crucial.com), and the HD to 20GB($169 buy.com) and the system runs perfect. The only negative I have is the weight (7.2 pounds).

Thanx bradm20. Last time i heard was that this laptop might be restocked so thanx for your opinion. How easy is the installation of the ram and the harddrive?

The RAM is simple. All you do is pop the back panel, and pop the ram in. Very easy.

The Hard Drive is a little more involved, but still easy.

Basically you have to remove a few screws, so you can lift the keyboard off. Then you just unscrew the brackets hold the HD. Put the new HD in the holder, and stick it into the laptop. Then screw the keyboard back on.

After the physical installation, you can just use the Bootable Recovery cd's. Total time to upgrade is about 20-30 minutes. Very easy.

Upgrades are easier than a desktop because you don't have to work inside a cramped case, and don't have to worry about jumper settings, and other things.

The entire HD process is explained in the manual with the laptop.

Then don't buy it. It'll get cheaper. Or Buy.com will have a coupon. BTW, have they stopped all coupons?

I just got off the phone with Walmart.com customer service. I had no problem getting the 10% credit on the two notebooks I bought. The rep said that the 5GB description was a misprint, and she apologized for the error.

My impression was that I would not have been offered the credit had I not called. So, it can't hurt to try.

This is a slightly abbreviated summary of the conversation:

Rep:

<< Walmart.com, how may I help you? >>

Me:

<< Hi, I bought a couple of HP notebook computers at Walmart.com a few days ago. They were advertised as having 5GB hard drives, but when I ran the HP diagnostics, it showed only 4.3GB. A friend of mine also bought one, and when he called yesterday, he was offered a $75 credit to his account. Am I also eligible for the credit? >>

Rep:

<< Let me pull up your information. You are Mr. Xxxxxxx? (note: they apparently have an Automated Number Identification, ANI, so they knew immediately who I was). What is your order number please? >>

Me:

<< My order number is xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx >>

Rep:

<< Yes, we are offering the 10% credit. The description on our website was not correct. We do apologize for any inconvenience. >>

Me:

<< That's quite alright. Thank you very much! Will the credit appear on my credit card? >>

Rep:

<< Yes it will. Thank you for calling walmart.com. Is there anything else we can help you with? >>

Me:

<< No, thank you, but thanks very much for your help.... >>

The fella I spoke with when I called for my $75 credit told me that they were "Rollbacks" and they wouldn't be getting any more. I'm not quite sure I believe him though - I'd check that page every now and then if I were you.

Remember these latops have gone in and out of stock since Feb 3rd.. So there is a slim chance they might get back in stock once more..

Hmm... todays purchases..

Early this morning I grabbed 2 of the the Dell 128meg SODIMM CL3 that was out of stock.

Then on another board they had the SKU for the 128meg CL2's.. They were in stock.

I called Dell and was going to cancel the CL3's. He told me they had already shipped. I was like, but aren't they out of stock ? So basically he said I couldn't cancel the order.

So I just went and got the CL2's and I'll refuse the CL3's..

As noted on another board.. teh CL2 memory supposedly is 5-10% faster.. But who cares.. hehe a little better for the same price.. And a 256Meg laptop will be nice too.. And I'll probably put in the 20 Gig IBM drive..

Also, last night I couldn't get the $4 free ground shipping to work or show up.. Today it showed up everytime I went to their site.

I took mine to work today... wow everyone fell in love with it.. And if I can get about 4 more..I'll have some quick sells..

Jp..

Does this N5125 support cardbus? From the HP site, the N5125 doesn't seem to support cardbus while the OmniBooks does? can somebody confirm?

5125 is only going to be around till the stock runs out from HP.

Talked to a WALAMRT tech rep....... He said you won't find the 5125 anywhere but walmart.... It was a special configuration HP did just for walmart and other MASS MERCHANDISERS. walmart wanted DVD and HP had to go down to 12.1 to meet walmarts Price point. HP uses the same body style and across the Laptop range so you getting a fine product from a design and quailty point of view....

BTW I absolutely love the CD player functions working when the whole laptop is turned off.... Overall a lot of very nice details...
