Without knowing anything specific....TFT...HPA...

TFT is fast enough to show a DVD movie whereas HPA and DSTN are too slow. So, if you like to think of the laptop as your portable DVD player, then TFT is what you want. Some people may choose HPA/DSTN over TFT because the chance of having a bad pixel is far far far less, but I'd rather have a bad pixel than a screen that I couldn't watch a DVD with.

Why TFT has a greater chance of bad pixels? Each pixel on a TFT is driven through its set of refresh circuitry. However, each column on a DSTN is driven by a similar analogy. Compared to the TFT, the DSTN has far fewer transistors to go bad during manufacturing...

HP.com has a battery for $149. Don't know if that's a good price or not, it's the first place I checked.

Dukota - Do you have the manufacturer's part number for that battery? With that we can search pricewatch.com and see what other web sites sell it for.

Big Rossman,
I haven't look in the manual yet,
But the Win me drivers show:

Battery name: n32NC
Chemistry: Lion
Manufacturer: Compal.

if i didn't already have a laptop i'd buy 2, or 3.. hmm.. actually, i wouldn't be able to afford it, stupid college. but, that'd be cool to set up a little network. hehe..

Rossman, go to hpshopping.com and search for product #F2024A.
I checked computers4sure.com and they don't have it. Haven't checked anywhere else.

WinMe says the battery in this HP notebook is a Lithium Ion? I wonder if that's a mistake. The specs on the Walmart site say that the battery is nickel metal hydride. If it's a Lithium Ion that's better. Can anyone confirm this?

BTW Walmart has completely removed this notebook listing off of their web page. I think that's all folks!

just picked up my lappy from airborne, they seemed to have a hard time finding my place.
anyways some first impressions, the screen size seems fine I guess its because the laptop is full size.

dvd's play great, screen color etc.. is great

only complaint so far is that 64mb and win me aren't the greatest. definitely recommend an upgrade from crucial.

will post more tonight.

also this laptop is very queit.

It's available at 4:37 pm EST. Just placed an order. Total is $754.97-$22.47 (from Dash)=$732.50.

Another question. What the difference between RJ-11 and RJ45?

Thanks. So I'll need to install a network adaptor in order to connect it to my network. How many "slots" do these laptops com with?

It sure was back in stock ,
I check out w/ two, one for my roomate's brother, and one for my 10 years old brother.

This is what is shown from the taskbar on the bottom right of my laptop.

Friendly Information for HP Laptop Owner
Capacity: 4.37
Used:1.5
Free: 2.86 G

This is from me not loading up anything yet.
The space was how this notebook was shipped!

Formatting a 5 Gig, hardrive, you will lose some space to partition.
This happen to most hardrive.
Nothing unusuall.
A 10.1 gig will come out to about 9.something.
Plus the Hibernation & other software take out some extra HD space.

Since the free space is only ~2.86 gig, you might want to consider buying a 20 GB HD to replace the one in your labtop(9.5 mm Hd available at Buy.com for $169.) If you cannot justify spending the extra $169(a steal by my standard), there are other alternatives.

If you know what you are doing.
Go to System Restore and create a restore point immediately.

Get the Windows Critical Updates(~27 min on 56K.)

Then go to Add/Remove Programs to clear out programs that you do not need.
For instance, you have both Quicken and Ms Money, in there, not only are these programs outdated, but there is two of them doing the same job.
Hp pavillion notebook introduction????
Under Windows Setup, you can remove some more megabyte,
Is accessability necessary, if multilanguage necessary?????

Brad20m, suggested this: Good price on 20 Gigabyte Laptop Hardrives from Buy.com
If money is tight, I would suggest you to get a HD upgrade b4 spending money on something. This will be less of a hassle later on(installing, re-installing.)
Have fun w/ that laptop.

I know most people don't use laptops for games but I still can't understand why there's still machines out there w 4 meg video cards when I can buy a 64 (16 times more for the mathematically challenged) meg card for my desktop.

Anyone know if this machine has any drive issues w Win2K?

<< 16 times more for the mathematically challenged >>

It's actually 15 times more or 16 times as much.

The laptop seemed to be unavailable minutes after my order. You can put it in your cart but you can't check out.

<< If you factor in that you could sell the 5GB drive for $60-$65 also..it makes the upgrade even cheaper. >>

That would be nice, just remember the factor of many of us flooding the market w/ it.

True, but I doubt that many people will upgrade the hard drive. Even if they do, I can't imagine a 5GB Notebook drive dropping below $50

What a great deal. has dvd too.

I paid $1350 for my refurbished i1400 thinkpad (celeron 433), although it has a 14" XGA TFT and it was back in September

<< How's the 5GB HD that comes with the laptop different from the IBM Travelstar? How do you swap a HD? >>

That's my question to! Is it as easy as installing the Ram.

There are instructions in the manual how to swap a hard drive. It looks pretty simple. Once you get the physical hard drive into the machine, it should be pretty much like a desktop system in the way you install it.
