It is even worse when you actually pay Walmart a substantial amount per year to make deliveries free notwithstanding the amount of the order and then you get them delivered by DoorDash that you did not order, with an expectation of tipping the delivery driver. It happened to us twice already. The first time I saw that there is a car in our driveway that was not USPS or UPS or FedEx - which is scary since we live in a remote location - and then I was completely embarrassed, because the driver, a nice young man, obviously expected a tip and I did not have a clue, why. He said he was from DoorDash and I told him that we did not order DoorDash, then I walked to where he left the package and it said W+ (Walmart +), meaning free delivery no matter the amount of the order, and we already paid Walmart for this service $98 a year.

DoorDash contractors should realize that people may have already paid Walmart for their "free" deliveries when accepting such orders.

I do not plan using DoorDash in the future, so I may not be affected even if DoorDash drivers label me a "no-tipper", but I was embarrassed that drivers thought bad of me, with none of my fault.

And, we are generous tippers when I go to a restaurant. We don't order food or groceries for delivery.

Another complication is that I do not want to make life difficult for DoorDash drivers who delivered our orders by telling Walmart that I feel embarrassed I did not tip and to stop hiring them - the drivers did not ask for a tip, they just looked as if they expected it. I checked out DoorDash, they do receive some base pay from the merchant that sends the delivery, but it is likely they get more in tips than from the base pay. Will have to find DoorDash forums to address the issue.

Having items delivered is a luxury imho. I am a cancer patient & get food from Amazon & Aldi. I tip well, try to limit heavy items ( watching a 100 pound shopper having to lug multiple cases of water is painful. I plan my orders ( all bakery items together, frozen foods etc) I choose substitutes in case what I want is out of stock.

These people use their own cars, pay outrageous prices for gas & have to contend with shady business practices. Did you know that Instacart will bundle am order that shows a good tip with a couple orders where there is no tip? Imagine having to shop a 50 item order without a tip & then discovering your drive time will be 50 miles?

I am fortunate to live in the city, enough drivers see my orders come up & jump on them quickly, they know I tip well, have my order organized & am available during the shop if things are out of stock. I also thank them for taking the risk of being in the store for me.

These are people, not robots, they are often desperate to put a roof over their families heads & food on the table. I appreciate their services.

The issue isn't that Doordash drivers are evil and don't deserve to be tipped, its that being surprise double-charged for deliveries you already paid for really sucks and Walmart shouldn't be doing it on the sly.

It would be fine if the order-page offered a CHOICE to pay a few bucks extra for a faster DD delivery option but just slipping it in there because they hope most people won't notice or they are short on drivers due to crap-pay is pretty sketchy stuff.

Note that I use DD myself when I get stuff delivered & have an active Dash-pass membership... also I tip a min of 20% -or- $5 (whichever is more) even on cheap/small items.

All of these services charge monthly fees, Instacart is $10 a month, Ubereats pushes membership but if you don’t join their delivery fees for a lot of places are outrageous! They don’t give any of that to their drivers/ shoppers!

I worry most about the grocery shoppers, Instacart shoppers don’t just grab the order & go. I had one Aldi order where everything I wanted was out of stock, the shopper had to take pics of possible replacements for literally every item, that is so time consuming .

Fortunately Stop & Shop's "Peapod" grocery delivery service has been terrific locally the few times I've used it since about mid-pandemic so I don't have to resort to using companies like Instacart (or DD) for groceries.

During the peak I still went out to shop but I bought 99% of my food at Family Dollar or CVS to avoid crowds. (and delivery-fee's)

Of course although I have some fairly serious health issues I'm not immune-compromised so its just not the same... not nearly as scary!

I haven’t been in a store for 2 years though I did go to the 7/11 on the corner once in the middle of the night because I was craving chocolate. The store was empty & they were clearly taking precautions. I was masked & wearing safety glasses, knew what I wanted, grabbed it,paid & out the door.

Walmart, DoorDash Plan to End Four-Year Delivery Partnership (msn.com)

Well, well, well. Walmart and DoorDash are "breaking up".
I tried to order grocery delivery this Mon. afternoon. There were NO delivery slots available. NONE all week, all empty.

I think Walmart has black-listed me. (After being an online customer nearly 10 years.)

We’re sorry! No times available. Please check back – new times open up throughout the day.
Pickup or delivery from store

No times available

I was in the grocery store today and there were multiple ladies circling the aisles with carts full of customers bags for delivery. One of them told me online orders are going insane.
