saw this over at walmart.com in the toy clearance section for $5.00 (was originally $18.77)...

$5.00 Glass Chess Set

it includes glass chess AND checker pieces PLUS backgammon, dominoes, cribbage, poker and more...has a glass board and a wood case for it all...

called the walmart B&M and they said it was not in stock in the store (here in houston) because this was a sale from christmas...so i guess walmart.com is getting rid of their supply as well...

s/h was (at least to here in houston) $6.29 for standard 3-day shipping...also "Tax applies only for orders shipped to Arkansas, California, Colorado, Mississippi, New York, Ohio and Utah."

anyways thought it was a cool price for a glass chess set and board...😎

Considering that before Christmas, you couldn't get a glass chess set for less than $15, this does qualify as a hot deal. If you want to crap, take it to the bathroom. No need to dump that stuff in here.

Good post. I wish I could get one, but I can't really justify it. And I've saved so much thanks to Anand's that I can't afford to save more.

My girlfriend and I have recently gotten into backgammon (thanks to internet backgammon in XP) and we have been looking for a nice cheap set. Thanks for the post!
 
wallyworld worker here, should also be on clearance at all B&M stores who carried it, it's discontinued. This is a very nice set for $5 and really heavy too!

I have that exact same chess set (excluding the backgammon) and it's really nice. I think i paid like 7 or 8 bucks a couple of years ago for it. It's the same one that's used in X-men the movie.

Is this the one used for X-men the movie? This is quite small if I remember correctly. There's a larger version of the glass chess set. However, the price is still excellent for the quality and the quantity.
 
called around, none of the local walmarts had it, $12 shipped is still a great deal. you can find these for about a buck on ebay. but they charge like $15 for shipping, and it only comes with the chess set. $12 for chess and 6 other games (gotta love dominos) is awesome. thanks.

This might not be that great of a deal but the box looked cool and it helped me feel I was getting raped a little less on the shipping. >>



i ordered yesterday night.. if i had known about that, i would have gotten it.. for $2, would have been fun to put that gundam model together.. o well.

cant wait for the set to arrive.. hmm. checkers anyone 🙂

oh , and i was thinking about getting one of those cheap checker sets (the one with the cardboard playing area) for my little brother during christmas since he likes checkers, and that's at least a few bucks at any store... sweet deal imo
