It needs motion blur like you would get in real life when moving your head side to side.
Quite the opposite really. You need high frame rate and low persistence strobing to accomplish a good VR experience. This is mostly due to the combination of head and eye rotation producing rotations speed than are an order of magnitude more than watching a TV. Its hard enough to make the display blur free without adding fake blur back in. Eventually, yes. But they need to do eye tracking and a much more complex blur render based on where you are looking than we are doing now.
