I am not challenging his check but I have a friend in sac and he told me it's more like 6.50 starting at his store.
He said 10$ an hour sounds like bs to him unless your managment. (and he'd get salary)
Dunno maybe in NY or here in SF but I work retail downtown in one of the most expensive cities in America and I sure didn't start at 10
(And here and NYC have no wal-mart anyhow)
9.50 is SF city living wage and we had to fight tooth and nail for THAT,
I doubt it unless he means managment.

I am not management, i started at $8 an hour because i had 5 years in retail. 55 cents for 90 day evaluation, 50 cents for night differential, 50 cents for getting a forklift license (merit raise). $9.55 an hour, ive been working there for 7 months.

Im not even a team leader, if i got night team lead that would put me at $10.35, and my 1 year eval is coming up, which is 40-55 cents based on performance.

Ok around 8 sound more like a starting wage since you are experienced.
10 is high from what I have experienced, no offense.

Sams Club also generally pays a bit more than walmart (same company) but they operate under the same system for pay, base pay at sams is $6.50 i believe, and thats if youre level 1 (Lot or Demo teams) and have no experience whatsoever in retail. (no cashier, customer service, merchandising, etc experience).

A license to operate a forklift, you must be certified to use one. I dont see the confusion there.

Walmart has a long chain of command, Associate, Team Lead, Dept Manager, Merch Manager, Co-GM, GM, DO, VP.

Team lead is still an hourly position.

My wife bought a portable light fixture yesterday that was $5 at Wal-Mart and $18 at the local hardware/garden center.

If you like paying inflated prices, keep Wal-Mart out

I'm not rich but I'm doing okay because I'm smart, I work hard, and I'm frugal.

Why are poor people paying 3x more for goods rather than shopping at Wl-Mart?

Good.

Unions are simply lobby organisations for delegating the task of using force and violent pressure to government.

LOL you want to hear frugal, instead of shopping at a Walmart here in the Boston Area we drive a hour to New Hampshire to shop at a Walmart Super Center because New Hampshire doesn't have any sales tax (plus driving to New Hampshire is always cool outing)

Regular raises are .45-.55 cents a year based on performance, with an option for manager sponsored merit raises of 10-55 cents every 6 months also based on performance. Working 3rd shift gets you night differential, another 50 cents.

It REALLY shows how much you know about the company. What do their competitors offer? Do you see target paying for everyones medical benefits? how about wegmans? Giant eagle? K-mart? Sears?

REALLY ITS RETAIL, GET A CLUE.

You can hate them because they are big and successful, dont hate them based on a retarded presumption that because they are successful they owe you or anyone else anything.

I still dont see how $10 an hour after less than a year for unskilled labor is paying your employees like crap. Again, hows the competition squaring up?

Again, you've got some gumption for psoting and I am at a loss for words to even respond.

This thread is so sad, we're doomed :(

With views like yours dave, we should just all go shoot ourselves. Do a poll, find out how many people in ALL OTHER AREAS got raises. Get over your hate. Learn to get on with your life. BIG BROTHER isn't really after you man.

Walmart settles for use of illegal immigrants

Wal-Mart will pay $11 million US to settle a federal probe into its use of illegal immigrants to clean its stores.

Two investigations turned up evidence that 345 illegal immigrants from 18 different countries were working as janitors at dozens of Wal-Mart stores across the U.S.

The probes found that many of the workers were working seven straight days in a week with no overtime pay. Some who worked the overnight shift were reportedly locked in the stores until the morning.

The employees in question had not been hired directly by Wal-Mart, but by third-party contractors. But federal wiretaps revealed that senior Wal-Mart executives were aware that subcontractors used illegal workers.

In other news, expect a new price rollback on teflon...

SunnyD posted about this in OT first.

The Republicans in Congress voted to spend $37 Million to widen the Corporate HQ's entrance to Walmart.

This is what you wanted Sheeple, this is what you get:

3-25-2005 Bill Allots $37M for Wal-Mart HQ Street

The U.S. House has approved a federal highway bill that includes $37 million for widening and extending the Bentonville street that provides the main access to the headquarters of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The company says it asked U.S. Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark., to help get federal money for the proposed project.

So... how much do you buy? I mean, you'd have to make back the money you spend on gas driving there and back.

Yep, and the WalMart heirs "earned" every penny of their $20B each. Well, maybe Sam's wife did, she put up with him for a very long time... It's "Hard", "Hard Work", inheriting all that wealth and power...

is that SOP? i mean, how often does that sort of thing happen? for example, honeywell has a building near where i live, off a small turnpike. if the turnpike needed to be extended, it would, by default, be expanding on the honeywell entrance.
the wording of this sounds dirty...but how common is this kind of thing?

Sadly I have been forced to shop at Wally World as of late.

The couple of stores left here have had a horendous stock situation (always out of the things I use) and Wally World is a lot cheaper.
